Guest guest
Hi Laurie, Your trip was not wasted. The pink eye is very visable so it probably had just started and an ear canal can be perfectly clear and an hour lately can be completely inflamed. I remember taking my older son in for a physical when he was young in the am and having to go back in the pm for a sick visit with a full blown ear infection. It happens and it is not uncommon. Who told you that children with ds have slower development after age 8? It is not true. Typical children develop at their own individualized pace as children with ds do within a specific range. The optimal years for learning are in the elementary years but development does not stop and learning continues at each person's unique pace. The pace may be slower for children with ds than their typical peers but nevertheless the learning continues into adulthood. You will always be an advocate for your child and the driving force behind services. If you do the leg work than you get the services faster. It doesn't get easier but we get better at it as the years go by. I think you have made tremendous progress with Mic remembering where you were a few years ago. Your doing a great job. Don't let a few bumps in the road get to you. I pass your exit when I drive to Gail's house and always think of you and Mic. That tells me my trip was a wasted trip because I cant hold Mic down to be checked. Geezzzzzzzz!!!!!!! We are becoming prisoners in our own house.Bad day my service coord. never showed up. UGH!I am getting so many different answers about the same things. The Dog the OPTS program everything.Ok Im not giving up.I keep pushing the fact Mic is ds and their developement slows after 8 years old then I dont have much time to wait. This was my plan for last year when I ended up in Florida with my mom and now I am paying the price for waiting.I am so discouraged.I have to look for a stroller I can keep Mic in. I have alittle pull in the state because of people I know working there, I was saving that card for emergencies.I feel like I am my own service coord. I am doing all her footwork and paper chasing. While she thanks me for doing the background work.Im going to find another one problem is everyone has a full case load.Needed to vent thanks!Winter has made traveling alone with Mic harder then I ever even thought.Carrying while walking on ice is dangerous for both of us.Im to;ld that 95% of the non eating kids that can eat doo after the Kennedy Krieger feeding disorder program. I wonder how costly that is. Laurie -------------------------------------------------- Checkout our homepage for information, bookmarks, and photos of our kids. Just look at Trisha, she is 13 soon to be 14 and look at the progress she has made just in the last 4-5 months alone. For us the biggest help has been having teachers and therapist who actually know what to do and do it. This school year has been amazing. I am so glad she is in the Autism school and at first was concerned about normal peer interaction, I have to say she has blossomed more here than she ever did at any of the public schools and she is beginning to make a friend here where she did not at the other schools she just knew who they were but no interaction. Carol Trishasmom She isn't typical, She's Trisha! If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you've always gotten.
Guest guest
I have to agree with Charlyne, you have come so far!! and also are doing a great job!! I tried to do all I could with when he was young but was told so many different things to do, did not know what to concentrate on the most, but even so, turned 8 in April and he has made some dev. milestones at this age, turning on lights now, turning on faucets, loving me to read to him, eye contact better. and this is on his own(except my reading to him and lots of sensory help)!! Of course we struggle with other stuff but I do think our guys can continue to progress in developement at all ages!! keep on going Laurie you are doing great as I just chime in with Charlyne!!
