Guest guest
Hi Joan, Four years ago, when Zeb was in 3rd grade I had a similair incident. They refused to help him redress after an accident and physically held the door shut cutting his foot while Zeb was fighting to pull the door open. I eventually had the person terminated. I think toileting issues are a big deal in school and cause our kids more issues. I learned to have every piece of Zeb's need documented on a medical form attached to the IEP. It then because more effective in driving the staff to do their job and assist when needed. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 13 DS/OCD/ASD? Joan Medlen wrote: Leah...leah...leah....WHY would I shoot you? YOu silly girl. You can read about the celiac screening here: http://ds-health.com/celiac.htm You could get a good idea if it's worth looking into from the blood test. Andy's didn't come back as conclusively celiac, but he was having daily loose (uncontrollable) stools...that went away. That's a good enough diagnositic tool for both her ped and me. I mean...they went away so well that he then " backed up " and we had to flush him out. It is just an outlier of a possibility. Don't beat yourself up. Sounds like there's enough " stuff " going on that it could be just about anything except typical stuff...You know? It's always such a puzzle. Glad you have some folks you think are competent to help. That's reallky important (and enviable!). Last year, before Andy was diagnosed with Celiac, when the diarrhea began, we had someone decide he didn't want to clean up the mess in the bathrooma nd left Andy--with no pants or underwewar--in the one stall bathroom (someone on the other side holding the door shut) until I arrived 30-40 minutes later. There was a change of clothes and everything in there--though the water only trickles out of the faucet (that's not MY fault!). I've never been so angry. So....do what you need to give them the confidence they should problem-solve and follow their instincts. will tell them if they're doing the wrong thign! Sorry you're in this mess. j __________________________________________ Yahoo! DSL – Something to write home about. Guest guest
Toileting especially becomes a problem when our boys start maturing. That was when it beccame a big issue for Elie. Pubic hair scared the school establishment. When I tried to explain that although his BODY was maturing, his mind was still a little boy. Guest guest
Although I do not condone what happened AT ALL, I have to say the teacher and the principal, and everyone BUT the Ed Assistant (22 year old thinks he's hot stuff guy) were horrified. The teacher was not supervising this guy well enough to even know it was happening, though. I sent the SUBSTITUTE who got hoodwinked into holding the door to go get her and was livid. My concern was getting my boy home safely. The Ed ASsistant told so many " tales " it was unreal. The principal hadn't had time to go check things out before she called, but when she told me his version of how there was little mess and he left andy clean, but unclothed (now why not finish the job when his change was right there in the room) I told her to go ask the custodian because she OWES HIM BIG TIME. HE corroborated my tale of a toilet coated in diarrhea. I looked for an attorney--it's the firs time I've ever wanted tons of cash. No one would take it. The Ed assistant is no longer with the district--the incident is well-known--and I have moved on. THankfully, Andy did too. But it helps to have his Celiac Disease diagnosed and under control! j --- sara cohen wrote: > Toileting especially becomes a problem when our boys > start maturing. Guest guest
Hi J, I'm so sorry you and Andy had to go through all this. It is so unneccesary. School personnel have immunity from civil suits but you could have filed a police report against this 22 yr old for neglect. It's more work than it's worth. I think the school handled it correctly and all is well. I hope Andy's celiac symptoms will stay under control so he can feel good.
