Guest guest
>What does Terri’s husband’s attorney have to do with the autism community?< Most of us don't want to talk about it, and some of us may not be aware, but those like Terri's husband's lawyer, think our children with autism aren't "persons" and don't deserve to live. If people of a certain mind set who are becoming influential in universities and the medical community have their way, what happened to Terri Schiavo could happen to our loved ones in the future. So in that respect it does have something to do with autism. C. -
Guest guest
Did they say that specifically, or are you guys making that assumption? I have certain views of the Terri Schiavo situation, but it isn’t related to autism. It’s not so black and white. I don’t want to get into another HUGE political discussion about non-autism issues, but you guys keep throwing comments into emails. And this is a discussion group. If you keep bringing up the subject- the subject is going to be discussed. And I don’t think everyone wants to have that discussion. It keeps us from our main focus- our children, autism and mercury. And btw- I think every person is a “person of a certain mindset”. My Mother was dying in a hospice bed last January, basically starved to death from cancer. I said to my friends that I would never put my family (or myself) through that and the outcome would have been much different. You never know how you would act in a situation until it’s YOUR family. And my views on that subject have nothing to do with autism. Not everything in life has to do with autism. - >What does Terri’s husband’s attorney have to do with the autism community?< Most of us don't want to talk about it, and some of us may not be aware, but those like Terri's husband's lawyer, think our children with autism aren't " persons " and don't deserve to live. Guest guest
Not that it's wanted or needed here, but I'll throw my 2 cents in, because the topic exists. Personally, I was appalled by the way Terry Schiavo was left to die. She should have ended up in the care of her family, who were willing to look after her and would likely have done better for her, than her "husband" was willing to do. I don't know the whole story, as many of us don't, but it irked me to no end to hear that her husband was denying her therapy which may have helped her to some degree. In a way, I do see parallels between what happened to Terry Schiavo and what is happening with some of our children. I am not going to spell that out, because most of you have that figured out already, I believe. It's also a moebius strip-- an argument with no beginning and no end, not to mention painful to those of us who lost parents pretty recently.> > > > > > > > >> >What does Terri¹s husband¹s attorney have to do with the autism community?<> > > > Most of us don't want to talk about it, and some of us may not be aware, but> > those like Terri's husband's lawyer, think our children with autism aren't> > "persons" and don't deserve to live.
