Guest guest
Ok... I saw a different school today.. Highcroft... this was much more of what I was looking for. My coordinator couldn't make it but the coord from Highcroft and our current teacher, Lori, came. Lori even agreed this was probably a good choice. It was more " warm " then the other placement option we looked at. Although the other placement option would definately take care of his needs.. this place seemed more set up for his sensory and visual needs... which would NOT be addressed unless he was in the sensory room at the other place. There are 5 kids in the class but only 4 were there today... so would be in with the boys! LOL... TWO of the boys I already know since they were in 's EC class with him year before last.. so that is good. This is a k-2 class.. it use to be k-5 but they split it up.. THANK GOODNESS.. that might have been a big reason I didn't care for it before. But where they have this class, the 3-5 class is next door so they do alot together. It was the afternoon so their morning structure I didn't get to see which I wish I could have.. but that is ok. The boys went into the 3- 5 room and they played some board games. While they were playing the games we went back into the k-2 room and just looked around some more and were a bit " nosey " LOL.. just to see the room. We found the daily schedule and just kinda chatted in there.. Lori and I. I also brought up the whole ABA eval and placement with this coordinator and Lori. They BOTH had a different take on it then the answers I have previously gotten and said they didn't see why couldn't have an ABA consult just so they are teaching him accordingly at this placement and doing Discrete Trials. That this setting is probably more appropriate then an ABA setting but they should be able to do it more as a consult and to the DT... THAT would be A-OK with me! Because there is NO WAY we would change placement again for an ABA plan. As it stands with this change it will be 7 placements/teachers in 4 yrs. So.. and I are happy with that compromise.. let's hope it works! I am glad Lori went with me. She really loved the way the class was set up and how more hands on it is for these kids. She even knew from what I was telling her about my " vision " , this place is probably better then the other place.. even though both are considered appropriate placement. So.. I haven't called our coordinator but and I agree Highcroft it is! Now.. let's just hope we can finish this whole thing up in a timely manner!!!! I told her and I had some goals we have been talking about for and wanted to start writing them down. She seemed thrilled to have my input. I have never helped with goals in the past but we want to now after really observing this past few months. She said to write things down and she will help us make them into goals. A.
