Hello Friends,

I just wanted to alert those who might not check the site regularly

to read Joan's latest Blog entry called: " An Effective Complement:

Advocacy & Forgiveness " on the Disability Solutions site.

( For those of you just becoming familiar with this list and with the

dual diagnosis of DS and autism, you can find the only publication to

date at this site as well. Disability Solutions is a publication

that Joan edits and publishes about quarterly. It is geared toward

families and others who have loved ones with with DS, but also is

very useful for other areas of disability as well. You'll want to

click on the Newsletters link and scroll down to Vol. 3, Issues 5 & 6

for the dual-dx issue.)

However, Joan's current blog just kind of knocked my socks off. The

topic is more than timely in that Yom Kippur ended at sundown tonight.

I think most folks who read this list often *know* that the members

here are very welcoming and treat one another with enormous

compassion. An important thing, since many of us need a soft place

to fall at the end of some of our exhausting and even debilitating

days. But I know many of us carry around lots of old wounds that

sometimes just don't heal from year to year. I hope that reading " An

Effective Complement: Advocacy & Forgiveness " will help you negotiate

some of the sore spots in your life a little better. It certainly

gave me pause, and will nourish my quiet times for the foreseeable

future.

Joan, I just want to say THANK YOU for blessing us with years of hard

work and willingness to continually share what you have learned. All

we need is ONE person to initiate change. Offering your thoughts and

struggles about forgiveness (and advocacy) will hopefully help some

of us close the circle on painful pasts.

God Bless Us, Every One!

Hi Beth,

Thanks for sharing this. I just told some young moms similar to this at

a workshop I attended last Saturday.

" Don't let bitterness take root. A bitter root will produce bitter

fruit. If we have bitterness on the inside, it's going to affect every

area of our lives. Yes, there are good reasons to be angry and bitter.

It doesn't do any good to go around hating the people who did you wrong

you can do something about the issue or it will continue to poison

their life. If they did their part and keep the poison out of their

lives, they would see favors and Blessings in a new way as I have had

to learn. "

What perfect timing for Joan to send this as I will forward this site

to them.

Thanks Joan.

Lots of hugs!

Irma,17,DS/ASD
