Guest guest
<<I bless the day they started giving him abilify. It has absolutely changed Ian's life for the better.>> Hi, Everyone....CK...that is my feeling with Risperdal. I consider it a gift from God. Too bad these meds don't work on all our kids. <<why does the psych want you to switch? We switched Maddie from risperdal to abilify, but that was because it didn't seem to be helping her>> Donna....I think he is pushing to change because Abilify is a newer drug with 'less' side effects....weight gain. etc. Gareth has never had any side effects from Risp. and never had any weight gain after the initial 20 #s, so that has never been an issue for us. Also, he has been on it for over 7 yrs. I guess there have been no studies on kids who have been on it for that long. I feel blessed that yrs. ago he had a child psych (from the U of Chicago Children's Hospital) on the 'cutting edge' as far as trying these meds on autistic kids. Of course, Gareth was an extreme on the behavioral issues, but it sure has made the past yrs a lot more pleasant. I just wish we didn't have to change the SSRI drugs every 6 months for the OCD. They 'wear off ' and we can never increase the dosage because that seems to make matters worse, so we keep changing between the three of them....Luvox, Lexapro and Prozac. Prayers for Duff and all of your family. Take care, Everyone. Margaret
