fire alarms at school

Hi everyone,

We have a problem and aren't sure what to do,I need some suggestions.

This morning at Isaiah's school they made an announcement to diregard any fire

alarms. With Isaiah just hearing the words " fire alarm " , he begins to get

nervous. His assistant was able to calm him, and he sat at his desk and started

doing his work. She said that she noticed that he was sweating very much.

After a few minutes the office secretary called to warn the teacher about the

alarm. When she gave Isaiah's assistant the message, (so she could get the ear

muffs on Isaiah), he over heard and got very upset then he threw up. I got a

call from the nurse and was able to talk to him. I thought I had convinced him

to go back to class, so we hung up. Not 2 minutes passed, and the nurse called

me back because he was throwing up again.

This is something that always happens with fire alarms. Last year he went home

almost everytime there was an alarm. I don't want him to think that everytime

he throws up he going to go home. The nurse also feels the same way as I do

about him going home, but we don't know how to help him deal with it so that he

doesn't get sick.

What I did today was to go back to class with him and reassure him that there

were not going to be anymore alarms. I stayed with him about 15 minutes and he

was fine after that. The fact that he was able to " recover " in such a short

time is a big improvement. Before he would have preseverated about the fire

alarm for a day or two. So that give me hope that it's getting better.

He started on Prozac about a month ago, he's only on 2ml/day right now. I

don't know if that's enough time for us to notice any changes. Anyway asidse

from medication, any suggestion as to what we can to do help him deal with the

alarms?
