Guest guest
Liz, that's great to hear that Tori's been in a pleasant mood since starting the Risperdal. I hope that the good moods stay. Wishful thinking is okay! How long before you find out about the results for the gluten/casein bloodwork? Becky Liz D wrote: Tori saw the Pediatric Gastro doctor today for her GERD, and is being put on Carafate. He has also ordered bloodwork for gluten/casein antibodies..(1) to rule out celiac disease and the other for allergies to either product. I was surprised to hear that gluten intolerances could be affiliated with celiac disease which kids with Ds are susceptible to. And so far, since she started the Risperdal on Friday night, she has been in a much more pleasant mood. I'm thinking it may be too soon for results-maybe I am just hopeful? Guest guest
Nothing wrong with being hopeful Liz - hey whatever gets you through the day right? <smile> Glad to hear she's doing well. I will be interested to hear the results of her bloodwork - wonder if that's something I should have done with next draw - probably a good idea. Take care, Jayne Liz D wrote: Tori saw the Pediatric Gastro doctor today for her GERD, and is being put on Carafate. 's AWFUL!!! Take care, Jayne Liz D wrote: I will let you know as soon as we get the results. Wanted to have them done anyway for my own sanity. Guest guest
Hi all, New to group...My daughter was on risperdal for about 8 months...was the best thing and really saw her finally focus and make progress..however her muscle tone is the pits and she really started to put on the pounds..and with her mobility we decided we had to take her off...just be careful with the weight gain..it was really the best drug we have tried so far. -- Re: GERD/GLUTEN/CELIAC DISEASE/CASEIN Liz, that's great to hear that Tori's been in a pleasant mood since starting the Risperdal. Guest guest
Trishie: Welcome & Thanks for your input. We researched all of our choices of meds and this seemed to be the best. Fortunately for now, Tori is really tiny for being 5. She just got weighed and measured yesterday...still 32 lbs. and 39/3 " tall. However, we are keeping a close eye on all possible side effects. Guest guest
Not quite sure how long it takes to get the results. Am making the call today to schedule it. She hasn't been too bad for bloods as long as Daddy is there. Guest guest
Celiac disease means gluten is toxic to you - a more serious reaction than an 'intolerance', medically speaking. It is classified as an autoimmune disease, not an allergy. Treatment is the same for CD as for gluten intolerance - GF diet for life. Some people don't think it necessary to differentiate b/w the two, and in many cases it may not be a big deal if a GF diet is maintained. In some cases however, it is important to be sure to have CD diagnosed - sometimes for school issues or extended family members, etc. and to help the person w/ compliance to a GF diet. CD can cause serious health problems if left untreated. The test results take several days, depending on the lab. Be sure they are also testing IgA. Many people w/ CD are also intolerant to dairy products (usually lactose, but can be other components as well), so sounds like your dr. is pretty knowledgeable. Hope that helps clarify - if you want more info, let me know. We got Conner dx w/ CD at age 2 1/2 after doing blood tests, biopsy and treating for reflux over several months. It was the continued reflux even on high doses of meds for it - they didn't help. We figured out a year later that dairy was also a problem - after several VERY expensive tests and scaring the daylights out of us. He's much happier now. We spent a year w/ him being very fussy and cranky - a couple of weeks gluten free diet and he was a different kid. T.
