Guest guest
When did your Husband retire? We have 3 years to go!!!! , we took a hop from there to Hawaii many moons ago... We were stationed in Sacramento and Merced back in 1989. I just realized that you take Freddie to a civilian doc so all that business I told you before about military care, probably doesn't apply, sorry. Let me know what you've done in regards to my post and I'll rack my brain some more. I can't believe that Doc at ! That's awful, I would have had a cow and probably said something that eventually would have gotten my husband in trouble somehow!!! LOL! I'm glad the Docs at Ft. were up with the times. My husband is in The Air Force, and flies the B-1 Bomber. Right now he's fulfilling his staff tour duties so he's working under The Joint Chiefs of Staff, with The Navy as the Operations Officer for an Atlantic Fleet Squadron. Basically, anytime The Navy wants to fire a Tomahawk missile, our phone rings. LOL! We live in a small town, that's growing by leaps and bounds, outside of the Hampton Roads area of Virginia - field, Va to be exact. Ever hear of field Ham? That's where I am! It's a wonderful change of pace living here, given the tempo of the Military since 9-11, he's home so much more. Of course he leaves for Bahrain tomorrow but only for a week. Much better than the 10 months he was gone in 2003! It's never dull around here between three kids, a dog, and life as a Military Family. Did your husband go the full 20? It must be strange to be out in the civilian life now, this job is helping prepare me for life outside of a Military Base. I look forward to hearing more about your family, do you other children besides Freddie? Take care, Jayne Mom to - almost 14, Emma - almost 9, and - 6 ( my reason for being on this listserv.) nna wrote: Hmmmmmm........my discs must be completely gone by now! Freddie weighs 41 pounds. We are Army retired and Army National Guard. We just left FT , WA and have settled in the San Francisco Bay Area. We shop at AFB. Used to be seen at the hospital out there but switched to civilian docs because the Full Bird who ran the Peds clinic didn't beleive in early intervention. I believe his exact words were...... " take your son home and teach him life skills " . Weird because the docs at Ft were all about early intrevention . Awesome group of docs! Where are you? Jayne Hickey wrote: I haven't taken him to the commisary in a while but when I do, he's in the cart! I could never grocery shop with him OUT of the cart - I'd be dead, he'd be dead, it would be awful. My husband carries on his shoulders alot and he loves it - problem is that I can feel every disc in my spine compressing when I carry him on my shoulder's. In an emergency, I'll do it and pay for it later with backpain. You gotta do whatcha gotta do, right? Where do you live nna? Are you guys Navy, since you said PX? Take care, Jayne nna wrote: Jayne, Have you experienced the commissary run yet? Lots of shelving to climb onto and great hiding spaces. Particularly the toilet paper isle?? That was fun. NOT! Thank God his favorite word is " MOMMY " . And it's loud. We do a whole Marco-Polo thing. At the PX....we carry Freddie on our shoulders to keep him busy. He loves the fact that he sits higher than everyone else. Makes for a calm shopping experience.....;-) nna mother to Freddie (4 yrs-DS/waiting on ASD evaluation) Jayne Hickey wrote: I'm exhausted! I just got home from taking to a Dr.'s appt and decided, silly me, to run a few errands. The Dr. is located on an Air Force Base and the errands were at the Base Exchange, a little mini-mall if you will with a main store that sells everything from clothes to washer and dryers and then there's a food court and a few other little stores. So, we make it through the appt just fine, and head to the BX(base exchange). First stop, Burger King to get chocolate milk and french fries so he'll sit in the cart and let me shop a bit. Luckily they had one of those little car/carts with the steering wheel - it all was going so well! I then decided to push my luck and go to GNC to get some things, that's where it gets crazy. I didn't have the stroller and figured, again silly me, that he'd be okay for just the few minutes I needed. I'm trying to get what I need and he's running behind the counter hugging the manager - who was very kind about the whole male to male hugging experience. Then he starts " swimming " on the floor, throwing his hat everywhere, all cues that all H*LL was about to break loose. I'm trying to finish checking out and hold him at the same time, all 53 pounds of him, and I'm totally sweating - the young clerk is probably making a very strong mental note to use extra birth control with his girlfriend at this point. He says " he keeps you in shape, he sure is busy, etc... " I'm like " yeah.., you'd think I'd be in better shape though. " I'm just about finished and boom - he bolts! Out of the store and running down the hallway just laughing away, with me chasing him and people just looking...I grab him and run back to the store. Of course I've left my purse and my wallet just out on the counter for anyone to have - thankfully it's all still there when I get back. I finish up and boom he bolts again! I grab all my stuff, 3 bags, my purse, and a coke, and say " gotta go! " He's booking it all through the food court just laughing. Of course passerby's just say, " he's fast! " I'm thinking, yeah - could you grab him?!!! He runs all through the food court and into the main store - he is just bookin' now and I " m sweating to death and not a pretty picture running - I finally get smart and put all my stuff down, except for the purse this time. He's all over the place - luckily I can hear him giggling so I have a vague idea where he is. Finally I catch him when he hits a dead end in the appliance section and grab him. I'm out of breath and he's fine! I sit him down for a time out , but more so to catch my breath and wipe the sweat from my face! Finally I gather him up and he walks back with me to the bags, holding my hand - I get a cart at this point to get to the car from here, no more chances for me. This nice young Airmen is next to my bags and offers to carry them for me! I thank him and decline as I'm in no mood for joyful small talk to the car - he puts them in the cart for me and tells me to have a nice day. So sweet. I roll out of there and secure that boy in the car seat and decompress the whole ride home, I don't think I said a word to him the whole time. I just played my Rascal Flats CD and prayed he'd fall asleep - it was close but he didn't! So now, I " m pooped and you've just read another book about " The day in the life of Jayne and " Am I the only that goes through this? Jayne Mom to the possibly the fastest 6 year old I know who has a not typical gait when he runs anyway - how'd he get so fast????????? __________________________________________________
