Guest guest
Zurama, Your website is beautiful and I am so happy to finally see photos of your beloved Mickie. The music and the stories brought tears. If it were me, I'd march straight into the school tomorrow and discuss that terrible school lunchroom situation-I am furious just reading what you worte. Guest guest
Who needs Denis Leary when our tax dollars are paying for even better in some SpEd programs? What a great site Zurama. Get your child and her friends to take some better video and send it to the news. People need to see this. > > " While the regular kids eat lunch, the disabled kids come out 5 > minutes before lunch is over and proctors tell them certain areas to > clean up trash. Guest guest
Zurma, Maybe your son has had enough experience picking up trash in the lunch area - they call it mastering skills. Call an IEP meeting and have them find another task to help out at the school. For example delivering mail to various teachers - watering plants, taking books back to the library, etc In EOHarm , " anacat_11 " wrote: > > Who needs Denis Leary when our tax dollars are paying for even better > in some SpEd programs? > > What a great site Zurama. Guest guest
The treatment you described is degrading to special needs people. How dare the school's administration let this happen under their watch. This is outrageous! This school needs to be contacted and these issues need to be addressed. Those innocent children do not know that they are being taken advantage of. Guest guest
The parents of these kids need to file an OCR complaint. Discrimination based on disabilty is the same as race or color. What if they had a certain sex or ethnic group do this? Would it be tolerated. This also should be provided to the media. Why do we as a community continue to let this happen to our kids? Guest guest
ASA has a chapter in almost every state, if not all states. You can ask your local chapter to put a presentation together to educate students in the classroom about Autism. I am working on this for our classroom. My son is in a typical kinder and has an aide. He has melt downs and becomes overwhelmed and also has compliance issues. He throws pencils and lunges if he doesn't like a song they are singing. I know some of the students are helpful to him, and I'm sure they all wonder what's wrong with Eddie. I don't want my child ostracized and every student in the school has the potential to help students with disabilities and to defend and protect. I have two different nephews in two different states that volunteer to help their Autistic peers in the classroom and on the play ground. Children are less likely to alienate other children with disabilities if they understand. I think this should be protocol in every classroom. Guest guest
The Principal and VP should be charged with forced child labor! The school is supposed to hire a janitor for that! I also think that the NT kids should e made to pick up trash for the next week as well, after the disabled kids have eaten. Guest guest
The kids who are being so terrible are no doubt troubled themselves, Not that this exonerates them. Does the school have a buddies program in which typical kids team up with kids with disabilities? If so it clearly isn't working. If they don't it's a long haul but might be worth it. Oceanside NY school district has one which could be a model. As does Long Beach NY, our district. There are many more. Good luck to you and I do hope you get it on video. Guest guest
Zurama - Why are special needs children being made to pick up trash? Surely, there are real life skills these children can be taught. Where are the adults when all this is going on? Why are those hateful, obnoxious kids allowed to behave in such a way. Reading this made me so angry. You definitely need to get it on tape and to the media.
