Hi Louise,

It didn't take long. I had the ed consultant do training with the staff. She

also modeled for the staff while she was observing in the classroom so the

staff could see the difference in a natural environment. The staff could see the

difference for themselves and have followed that model since. The BIP will

follow him to the middle school with training by the ed consultant with the new

staff. I do not think this issue will be a problem with staff in the middle

school. I will have more difficulty having them modify and provide necessary

teaching strategies in the general curriculum. I firmly believe we all need to

have choices in our lives to have a sense of control in our environment. Having

a

good consultant is the key to good programing and accommodations.

So agree Charlyne about having good consultants. Explain to me about the

ed consultant. Is this person from your school district or the state? How

do you find this person? Does the school or state give you a list of people

who can be an ed consultant? I assume the person must know about spec ed

children and their needs no matter what diagnosis they have. Louise

Hi Louise,

The ed consultant is a person that has a phd in education with a specialty in

behaviors. I found her myself networking in a sped workshop of some kind awhile

ago. I aksed for a PPT meeting and requested that they bring her on and of

course the bill that goes with it. The district dragged their feet but I did

some fast talking when I am backed up against the wall and they agreed. They

liked her so well that she does some other consulting work in the district. I am

certain that you could find a list of consultants with an advocacy center or

state sped dept. We have become good friends. she has helped me for some of the

other children I advocate for when I am stuck or need an opinion.
