Guest guest
For Pa. families to consider. Sent: Friday, March 04, 2005 10:22 AM Subject: Rally RALLY IN THE ROTUNDA IN SUPPORT OF STOPPING CUTS TO MEDICAL ASSISTANCE THE ISSUE: * Governor Rendell’s proposed budget includes major reductions in Medicaid (also called Medical Assistance or MA) services that, if implemented, will place people with disabilities in serious jeopardy. * While the Department of Public Welfare has given its assurances that 80% of the population will be unaffected, adults and children with disabilities and chronic heath conditions that will shoulder the burden of these cuts. * The amount of many MA services will be capped, and in-patient hospital stays will be limited. If an adult on MA has used up their hospital visits, that person will be able to go to an emergency room for stabilization but will not be admitted to the hospital for treatment. * Coverage under Medical Assistance is already limited to medically necessary services. It is wrong to seek cost savings by denying medically necessary care and treatment to the people in Pennsylvania who need such services the most. * If these proposals are adopted, people will go untreated and could die. * If adopted, these cuts would make Pennsylvania’s hospital coverage among the worst in the country. THE ACTION: The Pennsylvania Legislature must approve these cuts for them to go into effect. It is critical for consumers, families, and advocates to make their voices heard by contacting their local state representatives and senators and the media. Let them know that these Medicaid cuts will severely harm Pennsylvanians, with or without disabilities. Be clear that the human costs are not worth any cost-savings DPW claims it will get. Join us as we rally at the Capitol in burg on Tuesday, April 12th. Bring yourself, bring your child, bring your family and friends. Rally to begin at 10:00 a.m. Schedule a visit to speak with your legislators! Let our voices be heard! For additional information email _Rally041205@..._ (mailto:Rally041205@...) or call 1-.
