Guest guest
Hi Margaret, Since this is at school and you've already done your battle with this issue at home and of course have to approach your ways on what will work. How is Gareth listening to pretty girls? Have you tried " the male hormone ammo " ? Sorry guys no pun intended. ;o This worked with when we had similar issues this is where I had an OT trained with SI teach me by desentizing by brushing as he could not tolerate smell or the slimey soap touch. I still had the issues at home depending on certain days, but then able to address it once he succeeded at school. He still needs some assistance and a hand wash pic or he will stay washing his hands all day if he had it his way. It became succesful using liquid soap, when I brought this trial up with the school and they were willing to try it. It started mostly with her modeling the handwash routine with the break down steps and the " your turn " and now its time to go make whatever his favorite food to start off with and then eat (whatever chosen food), this helped . Now during his cooking sessions at school, many will eat off from any food he has helped cook, as they know his hands are clean. Not that Gareth's hands are not, but you know how some people could be. We even graduated sometimes depending on his days brushing his fingernails during hand wash. Good luck and hope Gareth does well with his cooking class. Irma,16,DS/ASD > Hi, Everyone....Gareth is taking a cooking class this semester.
