<<I am gently reminded of an incident with Zeb in 2nd grade. The class was

going to watch a video. Zeb waited all day for this movie. They forced him to

go to speech while the rest of the class watched the movie. >>

Hi, Everyone....Charlyne.....Gareth gets pulled out of English class twice a

week for speech. It's not like he's missing a lot since he's very basic on

writing as far as periods, punctuation, etc. and the rest of the kids are

close to a 10th grade level. We figured English was the least problematic of

his classes to pull him from. He only receives speech through the school

district and there are very few kids in HS that still receive speech, so we

have

to work around her schedule. His detention was an isolated incident.....you

should know me by now that I won't tolerate any BS from the school district!!!

<<I've heard that can be a lot of fun, leaving your house without the kids!

take care, Jayne>> Please...let us know!!!

Donna....what a nasty price to pay for a night out!!! Glad you both had

fun.

Carole...that's amazing that 's OT would do that for hair cuts.

Haircuts and blood work were two of the hardest things we had to do back when he

was younger. I can remember on one occasion where 4-5 of us held him for

blood work only to be called a week later and be told they 'lost' the blood.

We

had to go in and do it again. Boy was I pissed!!! I know today kids receive

OT and sensory tx. for a lot of the autistic issues, but back when Gareth

was 6, there wasn't those options. We started him on Prozac when he was 6, and

within a year, he was sitting at the barber or getting blood draw with

minimal holding. The only stipulation he has is that the needle has to be in

by

the time we count to three. After the needle is in, he watches the tubes fill

up. I am sure a lot of it is anxiety for our kids, hence why the meds work

so well for Gareth. Take care,

Everyone.

Margaret
