Guest guest
Hi Louise, Sorry just getting back. I'm so glad that the transition to 's new environment is coming along and what a relief for you and the family. If I ever have to cross this bridge I hope we find a nice place knowing that there are actual real people/staff with a passionate heart. I agree one step at a time. There is something deep in my heart that I feel could happen. My dh would like to purchase a new home and have our oldest son take over the house that we are in now, with God willing. My vision is aimed towards looking into a nice piece of property which will entail areas for a nice safe Basketball & Tennis court along with a nice walking & running area, and a garden. The future home might be too big for us but I told my dh that it would not matter as once we are Seniors or the other issue when we are not around, our house could convert into a group home which will involve others with special needs. I had shared this with my 17 y/o son Rick and he immediately had mentioned to me that these were part of his plans. I was stunned, no matter what his future plans where, he said he's also including to make sure that he is taken care of. I know it does not hurt to imagine. At least my son Rick and I where on a similar page. On another note one of my friends whom I helped open a PT clinic told me she was seriously thinking of expanding her business having an OT aboard, especially because my grandbaby's mom is working for her as a PT Tech along with other titles and attending school to become an OT, inspired due to . My friend believes Kim would be a good OT. Then she started to tell me she was seriously wanting this to happen and needs me to return back working with her. I believe this would probably be 2 to 3 years so in the mean time I'm looking into grants and gathering all my research info and of course into the political issues when it involves State funds, Health Insurance, & school funds. I'll pray that this will happen with or without me but I will assist to make it happen. This morning I managed to attend our local AU Support Group and as always I'm glad I went. It was on Movement Program/The Movement Development Clinic by Dr. Robbi Beyer held at one of our local University. She is supervising graduates and undergraduate students who have had specific coursework in adapted physical education and motor development to deliver an appropriate movement program. This program is free and aimed towards younger children 5 to 13 y/o to help children who are experiencing movement problems due to a lag in the growth and development process, or poor personal social skills, or the inability to process information. Most clients experiencing movement difficulties, identification in one or more of the four basic catergories of movement. * Perceptual skills (body and spatial awareness, identification of body parts) * Locomotor skills (walk, run, hop, jump, skip) * Object Control Skills (throwing, catching, kicking, striking) * Physical and motor fitness At first I thought I was wasting my time as the program was not aimed for older kids but I had the opportunity to speak to Dr. Beyer. She was pretty interested on wanting to meet after we spoke and asked if she could do an assessment on him. I of course said " yes " , what an opportunity when it involves any sensory motor or physical activities. It was especially nice to know that she is willing to help many in our community. Your numerous years of advocating gives me strength & Hope that I must continue to take these challenging steps for and not give up when things get rough. It saddens me to hear how many young children are being killed here in our local city these past months. Why, I ask they've become parents? Why harm an innocent human being who can not defend themselves? Not to defend the parents but still why? Could it be because of stress or psychological issues? One was starved to death due to misbehaving, one supposedly fell off a cradle but later autopsy revealed full blown to the head, mom confesses " yes, the baby kept crying and she threw her against the wall, this is maddening so I will not continue with the stories but when this happens. I pray for the little souls who did not have a chance to live. Of course they did not deserve to be parents and this is where I see why we've be chosen for our kids with special challenges. Thank God that we have this group as we have added challenges raising our children with special needs along with the daily activities, not that we would do any harm to our kids but at least turn our energy towards something positive for our kids. Supporting each other, Thank you. Irma,16,DS/ASD
