Guest guest
hmmm... wonder how the teacher would feel when she asks you to sign papers and you tell her you will sign one paper and if she is good you will sign another later? Please, please remember....you know your child better than the teacher, therapist, school etc. If you find something that works then keep using it, and document the results, then at the next IEP show your documentation and then say you want it put in the IEP and if they refuse then say you want a written pwn before you leave the meeting. Guest guest
We have taken that book and some other special books and translated them into PECS from Writing 2000. then Elie can read them almost alone. I have decided that teachers are really hired help to do our bidding (catch the negativity???) and therefore. SHE will do what I want. And I will go to school to enforce it!! So this week, I went to school, asked for the social stories notebook I have laboriously written. It was unearthed from a pile of s--- on the teacher's desk - never used because she didn't know which stories were helpful and which were not. So I went across the hall to the secondary principal and showed her my book. The result was that I will write and send stories which will travel back and forth in the back b=pack. They will be used exclusively for reading. If the teacher wants a topic covered, either she must write one or tell me and I will write one. But use it she will. SOOOOO I wrote one about Camp next week. Now Elie is reading it every minute he can!! And reminding me that camp is now in 7 days. 7-6-5-4-3-2-1- Blast off to Camp!!! Guest guest
There are two things that unnerve me when it comes to school situations and are still risky business for me to advocate over. 1) Sending in requested or helpful tools that are then ignored and 2) When people don't get the importance of the technique or tool. After 10 years of doing the adaptations and social stories and all that rot, I have no patience for people who can't seem to get their s*** together and make accommodations within 2 months. It's stunning to me that folks can see the amount of effort put into something--and we don't have time to do that for things that do not work--and then claim that it doesn't work. , I would not seek validation for your successes from this teacher. She needs to be more crafty than you--it's important to her self-esteem. told you what worked and why it was great. Let him be your tool. As for the teacher, if she wants to micromanage her stuff, let her--as long as it works and she actually DOES IT. I'd focus on that. If she has the better plan, is she USING IT?????? just a vent j __________________________________________________
