Guest guest
Funding thru the SD lasts until 21. How that is used is a matter of bargaining. I want the rest of his time and money spent out of school. Tthe problem is that the only current work evals are contracted thru the sheltered workshop in our town. That is battle one. Battle 2 is that the eval that is done by them is very narrow in focus aimed at people who will go to the workshop. (If you have a screw driver, every thing needs screws) Battle 3 will be that I want a job coach to find pieces of jobs in the community that Elie can do. They do not want to hire a job coach. Battle 4 is that I am being told that Elie will probably need a day program after school ends. I am saying he and I will be in court before that happens. That is in fact re-institutionalization. Will not happen. I have found another company out of the district that does much of what you describe and want for Elie. The other company is a distance away from our area but I have introduced them to this district. They have used them for a few students with good results. I have teens in my ARC group. I have more trouble convincing the parents that their children can do so much more. I agree with you and hope you can find an alternative for Elie. He's too important and valuable to veg in a sheltered workshop and day program. My prayers are with you that you find a solution. Guest guest
Elie's hsbilitation worker (and friend) is coming to the transition meeting. He has identified skill groups and will telll them at the meeting. He also is being hired to go with Elie to the eval. The building where the evals are held is not physically safe for Elie. Elie needs to have a mentor there. Hi Sara, So sorry to hear about your arm. I'm praying that it will heal fine for you. I agree the older we get the longer it takes our bodies to get back into shape. Maybe the cast was put there for that very reason,LOL. I think you will do just fine at this meeting. I agree that this building is not safe for Elie. You would think that they would have put in the necessary safety features before they occupied the building. I will be waiting to hear the outcome of this meeting. Happy new year. I just returned from a party at my older son's house. Zeb was great. He had a wonderful time with all the kids. The girls were practicing their makeup skills and of course Zeb was their model. I was stunned that he sat and let the girls put lotion and whatever all over his face. I can't even get chapstick on him most of the time. He let the girls wash the makeup off besides. He's a real charmer when it comes to the girls. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 12 DS/OCD/ASD?
Guest guest
Elie can easily leave. The building is on a busy secondary corner. There are no alarms on the doors and i counted 4 doors - all without a straight eyeline from anyone. Mike( our wonderful habilitationm worker and Elie's friend) had Elie visiting for the last 2 days. Even he was taken by surprise- one minute Elie was sitting on the backporch playing with the dog. The next minute he was dancing on the center line of the street in front of the house. Did 3 adults scolding him have an effect??? Who knows. My arm is still bad. Re-check Tues. x-ray and determination f I get to go from cast to brace. But I am OLD as the doc keeps reminding me so healing is not quick. Had to take oxycontin one day this week- Normally I only take NSAIDs but hopefully the pain was nerve regeneration. No body better tick me off at the meeting- I will hit them in the head with my cast!
