I haven't been on here in awhile, so I need to introduce myself. I am

, mom to 4--ds,10, Nicolas-ADHD,9, Austin-5, and

Gerritt-2.

I am posting to see what to do. has always exhibited some

Autism traits as alot of kids with ds do, but more things have

surfaced in the past year that I feel need to be looked at. SO, her

school pshyc is going to evaluate her. I know that is probably a joke

but wanted to get an idea of what to point out. Is there a checklist

or a list of things to look at in kids with ds/autism? I have read

that sometimes kids with ds don't exhibit all the traits. Like,

likes to look at people and socialize....IF SHE WANTS TO.

But, she sometimes totally tunes people out. AND DON " T GET IN HER

SPACE UNLESS YOU ARE INVITED! Otherwise, you will be on your behind....

She has had NO improvement in her speech for years. She has a very

large vocabulary, but does not use it. She sometimes whispers words

to me and talks in 1 or maybe 2 word combos. Then there is the self

stimming-ie hand rubbing. When she does this, she crosses her eyes

and I have to nudge her to get her attention. Its like she is zoning out.

Extreme sensitivity to loud noises and the dark. Flying objects freak

her out too. If a bird flies over her head, she drops to the ground

in panic. Same with bugs. She is Obsessive Compulsive I know, just

hasn't been dx. Everything has to be in line and her way or she is

screaming and out of control. She has to be first in line for

everything. Her food has to be seperated and in neat little piles so

she can eat them in order. Her dolls have to be in a certain order

and neatly placed. God forbid my 2 year old moving one out of place!

She hurts his feelings by yelling at him. I guess I am lucky she

doesn't knock him out. She just hits her pillow or the bed post.

Lets see,

what else,

hmmmm....

She does alot of humming and rocking...Its a fight to brush her teeth

and to get dental work done, she has to be put to sleep.

Am I right to question these behaviors? Or am I reading too much into

it? I don't know what to think.....I just think that surely there is

something that we could do to work through some of these.

On the other hand, is extremely bright. She learns things

very quickly. She almost has a photographic memory. If she sees

something, she usually doesn't forget it. And she is my buddy. She

can be the sweetest, loving little toot you could ever know. Not to

mention beautiful. I just want to help her....

Help please????!?!

Thank you,

Jenn
