Hi Sherry, Happy belated anniversary! I learned sometime ago not ever to compare kids. Zeb has an attorney with a DS child. She is 15 and can read on a six grade level. The mom not long ago told me that she wished her daughter could speak as well as Zeb. We always wish for what we don't have rather than rejoicing in what we do. I know it is senseless to compare our children with others as you remind me. Sometimes very difficult not to however. Actually in this case I feel sooooo proud of little - he is making a name for DS kids all over and has changed many minds in the school system about what a DS child is capable of. Actually I had chosen him when he was 2 to be 's future husband (he he) but they ended up growing apart as remained interested in Barney and went on to be a superstar. Actually I believe God knows exactly what He's doing- I doubt I would have had the energy to keep up with a child like him, nor to fight as hard as his mom has for his rights. (I only fight with Doctors :-) They are wonderful people and I am proud to have them as friends. It is so wonderful to hear of everyone's holidays and the presents the children enjoyed. 's absolute favorite presents as usual were the 20-30 50 cent puzzles and books I bought her from the dollar store. She is so sweetly easy to please. We have a speech therapist coming to the house who is in her 30's and actually whining because she didn't get anything she wanted for Christmas!! Meanwhile 44,000 so far- human beings were dragged out to sea and flung back as dead bodies; all the children and the pain and despair is just so horrid to hear about. How can we possibly not be greatful for what we have. God bless them. Therese are you there?? started her cycle again today and again refused to wear a pad but she has kept on the special pants you told me about. This is a blessing indeed! Thank you so much. Because this we can not change and accept how much are kids can do. When you write about I am so proud of what she can do and my son can not do yet but what a warm feeling on how much the things they can do which required some work and time when they are ready and has progressed in this challenge arena. I say it sounded like a nice Christmas for you and your family and glad it was. Happy Anniversary to you and your dh and may there be many more to come. You were a good Santa. Guest guest Posted December 29, 2004 Report Share Posted December 29, 2004 happy belated anniversary from us too, i agree with charlene, often i catch my self wishing nathan could do some of the things a boy with just ds in our school, same age even, can do, or even regular kids, but he is 13 and still cant read, well a tiny bit maybe, but he is very affectionate and funny never lets us down for a good laugh, and an elctronic wiz, and a jock at heart, loves sposrts just as much as any other guy. we will all keep trying hard to teach him to read, and hopefully someday it will come.i really cant imagine life without him, the good or bad, they go hand and hand. shawna Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
