Guest guest
Shrek 2 is out (first time I saw it in the stores was today) and we are watching it for the first time - I mean round #1 tonight. We did see it in the theater a few months ago. It will be interesting to see what scene picks out to fixate on. The funny thing is that I had told him a few days ago that SpongeBob's movie would be out this weekend and we'd go. WHen I got home, he was taking a bath. DH was sitting there and told me washed his own hair (I dont' know what has gotten into him lately). then asks me to see the Spongebob movie - I totally forgot and I owe him a trip to the movies. Anyways, I asked Tim if he was having a hard time getting out of the tub and he said sorta. I told him I could get him out and he said " yea, right " . So I pull out the new DVD - immediately pulled the plug and dried off...lol!
Guest guest
Hi , You are right on target if you've found something that will work for . DVD's & videos have been the best investment for us as this has been the best reinforcement for my son even at this age of 16 y/o. I too, had gone out to purchase it this morning. As a matter of fact where on round 3 as I'm writing this. His cousins are spending a night and he is enjoying watching it again with them. At school in the past(during his middle school years)when I finally had figured out this great reinforcement and his ex-teacher too, within time even if he took the cover of the video without the video inside, this had decreased him from running off, it was like a security item which gave him some comfort. With the community trips,it helped him enter restaurants, malls, theater, department stores, etc. Depending on his days it slowly has been fading out but at least he is able to now enter some places that we never would of imagine. I had it included it on his IEP that he was allowed to have his attachment of the day which would be an action figure toy, stimming item, read-along book/CD,video/DVD, etc. to help with transition, decrease some of his meltdowns. The middle school ended up receiving a DVD player for Christmas that we gave the teacher as we started to purchase DVD's. This has also helped with the morning transitions out the door and once the bus arrives I switch his backpack for the stimming item, DVD whatever bag of tricks of the day onto the bus without any struggles, it took some time and work to work around it. After school when he arrives he enters straight for his favorite item of the day and then enters the restroom and ready for whatever agenda of the evening which gives him comfort. I wish 's teacher will come around and understand what you've discovered with his favorite book, that this helps him during his difficult moments that this is a perfect reinforcement which will help for compliance training, a great teaching strategy. This could be faded out slowly once he stays engaged with an assigned activity and becomes comfortable around his surroundings which are hard for him to function around certain environments that he can not tolerate. I wish I knew this when was younger as a rifton chair had to be used as he would not stay seated back in his early years of Elementary. First year of High school he still needed to use an item during his transition years from middle school to High school. 2nd year attending High school this school year and he has not had to take any item of the day with him anymore. You do what you have to as will learn if there is a great motivation item that he will work for. Irma,16,DS/ASD
