Guest guest
Hi, Everyone....a...keep writing about and the Aricept, please. I am really interested in this one since the psych said our kids tend to lose 'learned' information so easily. I remember Gareth's pediatrician telling me when G. was only a yr. or two old, that DS kids can learn and do retain what they learn. Gareth is not showing that. Half his spelling words that he has had over the yrs. have to be completely relearned. The psych said that autistic brains were like onion peels. The inner part of the onion is tightly compact and retains knowledge but the outer layers come away easily. Does that make sense? Gareth can remember what route number to take to get anywhere, but can't remember a common street name in his neighborhood. He can remember that I was angry 6 yrs. ago about something (he still brings it up!!!) but can't remember nickels, dimes, etc. unless it's drilled into his head on a daily basis. Jayne...Gareth had 6 sets of ear tubes and a permanent hole in the left ear for yrs. The hole would heal over and he'd blow it open again because I would never know he had an ear infection. He is 16 and his hearing is fine. As for surgeries, I have lost count of the number of times he has been under!!! Let take in a favorite toy and the anesthetist (knock him out Dr.!!!) (sp?) may practice on the toy, showing what they will do. Take care, Everyone. Margaret
Guest guest
that oninon deal makes perfect sense!!!! our doc says the reason can memorize enitre shows sounds etc and not remember his reading or spelling words, is due to the way his autism causes the brain to fire, the wiring so to speak. He says wit a develooping brain the ariciept works well for ininviduals like nathan but like all meds its not a cure, and one has to wait and see for some may see no changes. I think i have noticed him talking more lately but as his mom im biased i suppose. it was soooo funny the other night we went for a ride to look at xmas lights and him and nic were goofing off(ive noticed lots more interaction between them lately too) and nic goes look at the sky, and nathan goes (as plain as day no garbled)thats not sky its space, and then nic was going well what planet do we liveon, nathan goes i dont know, and i said we live on planet earth nathan, he goes ya right earth and then nic goes no we live on the sun, and nathan goes no we dont we live on planet earth, DH and I were hiding our giggles, luckily they were in the back seat, lol, its amazing what ourkids really DO know. shawna
