Guest guest
Dear Colleagues,I am seeing a hospice client who is about 50-60-something and has brain cancer. Sadly, this patient was a professional musician. He enjoys listening to me play and, once, tried to play the piano and my guitar. We have a rapport established, and I'm starting to explore more emotionally-sensitive topics such as his anger and depression which stem from his potential being cut short, sadness, disappointment, and premorbid issues. He deals with stress by shutting down. The only anger song I know is " There's Anger in the Land " from the 1960s. I improvised verses after singing the entire song as a way to reflect his feelings, including giving him the choice to leave this world with more resolution and peace or not. I would appreciate any suggestions. I am aware there is a program to train music therapists in hospice work; however, I'm unable to attend.Sincerely,-- Shoshana AverbachMSW, LMSW, MA, MT-BC, LCAT, Accredited Healer healingnotes.com
