Guest guest
Hi Margaret, Nope, Seth isn't potty trained yet. He does use the toilet most of the time, on a timed basis. They are just extra I had stock piled. No, he weighs 48 pounds, but that size fits him best. Well, Seth can't share a theater with Gareth. He needs the volume so he can rewind to the same phrase...over and over and over. LOL Actually, he can get it right to one word over and over, take a minute to crack up at the word and rewind again. Seth would be a good food worker, since he wouldn't eat any of it! LOL Gail :-) Hi, Everyone....This movie line is soooooooo funny....something only we can understand with our kids!!! Gareth would have the volume off to watch any movie...so we'd need 2 separate rooms to watch the movies. He'd help with the food, too....loves to do the cash register. Gail....does this mean Seth is potty trained?!?!? He's up to 65-85 pounds?!?!? Joan....I am thinking of your request. Will let you know later. Take care, Everyone. Guest guest
Hannah will also rewind or stop something on the very same syllable. Right now it's a whale sound on a Kindermusik CD. The weird thing is, is that it kind of sounds like the noises she makes. You know this kid has sat in on 2 years of Spanish lessons, 3 years of Latin lessons. Perhaps it's " whale-ese " that will be her first language! a
Guest guest
LOL a! And they say our kids can't focus? LOL I know Seth can focus on one sound like that for hours! LOL Seth's favorite TV show, well the flavor of the month anyway, is Jeopardy. He will get right up to the TV and point at stuff on the screen. Makes no sense to me, but he will focus on that show for 30 minutes without moving an inch. LOL Gail :-) Hannah will also rewind or stop something on the very same syllable. Guest guest
Yeah, Seth too Carol. I don't know how useful this *talent* is, well, other than for the movie house our group will soon be opening. LOL I think we will have way too many kids wanting to run, and rewind the movies! Gosh, Seth will show his temper if someone else stops the movie in the wrong spot, or rewinds to the wrong word! LOL Gail :-) Trisha also has this talent! And she very rarely if ever misses her spot! Guest guest
I was wondering the same thing. LOL We have a DVD player, but I haven't take the time to figure it out yet. I ask my daughter to set it up for me when I want to watch a movie. LOL I know with our CD player, you can rewind to the last song, but not just to a certain part of a song. I'm still in the dark ages too Sherry! LOL Gail :-) too is an expert rewinder and can narrow it down to one word over and over again. Because we are going to switch her over to CDs from audiocassettes for Xmas I'm worried about her rewinding passion....so can you rewind a CD?? How about a DVD?? Guest guest
LOL And I can't even get the thing to play! LOL All I can do is watch the preview over and over. Guest guest
Okay, now do these kids have an audio or video fixation? Seth rewinds to a certain word, but it's totally a visual stim, I think LOL I can't imagine he would enjoy and audio tape like a video. Gail :-) I made the hard decision earlier this year to give away a majority of his video tapes for the same reason... he would not only perseverate on repeating the same passages - they would set the tone for the day/week/month(!), he would act them out over and over again to the exclusion of everything else. Guest guest
What is it with our kids? has worn out at least 4 Fisher Price tape recorders rewind and fast forward buttons. I finally won my sanity back - temporarily - when we got him a CD player!! Unfortunately, he has been so hard on it - doing the same thing... that even the duct tape won't repair it anymore.... Xmas can't come soon enough - I had forgotten how difficult it was to listen to the same phrases, ad nauseum! I made the hard decision earlier this year to give away a majority of his video tapes for the same reason... he would not only perseverate on repeating the same passages - they would set the tone for the day/week/month(!), he would act them out over and over again to the exclusion of everything else. It was hard to do, but it was the right decision, his OT was very happy as I donated them all to her... Joanne Mom to (13), (10) ds,asd, das & (8 on Thursday!) Guest guest
Yes Sherry, it can be done!! But! For the CD with headphones (!) you don't have to listen to it!!! It doesn't rewind as exactly, but, it seems to work for ! Joanne 's Mom Re: Movie theatre/Pull ups <<Hannah will also rewind or stop something on the very same syllable. Seth rewinds to a certain word, but it's totally a visual stim, I think LOL I can't imagine he would enjoy and audio tape like a video.>> Well, used to have a video fixation, however her obsession has matured <g> over the years.....now she stims and rewinds her audiotapes. We have actually made audiotapes OF her videotapes and she can get them synchronized to rewind both the video and the cassette player at the same part. She thinks this is great fun. After awhile I noticed she had stopped rewinding the music segments so much and had moved on to dialog and just plain weird sounds. I've started copying down the words to the phrases she rewinds like " oh elephant we were supposed to go play baseball " , or " give it the old college try " , or " a one and a two and a bop bam boom " . Then I go in and say them to her and try to get her to fill in the phrase with the last word. I can also get some giggles out of her with these too. Anything to develop some speech and communication and " bonding " . She's come up with new and improved visual stims like watching the videos thru a mirror or the reflection in the window at night. Then she stacks her books in precarious towers in front of the TV screen and peeks thru the tiny spaces left between different shaped books. I have a friend with an autistic daughter and we discovered by accident when talking on the phone one day that her daughter and rewind many of the same exact phrases or segments. This might be interesting to pursue for a doctoral dissertation on self stim lol Sherry
Guest guest
This is getting eerie. It's like all our kids are from the same planet. has rewound or fast forwarded movies to certain spots for as long as I can remember. Remember last year when I complained that was smashing all the light bulbs in the house on the floor, we finally figured out that she was acting out the scene in Pinocchio where the boys break windows on Pleasure Island. The light bulbs made the same sound. We took that movie away and the behavior stopped. But there's no way we could take all her videos away. That would break her little heart. God Bless Walt Disney. His movies have been my most reliable respite care provider. Therese > > > Okay, now do these kids have an audio or video fixation? Guest guest
seems to be talented enough to fixate on both! He looks and listens for things you and I don't see or hear at first! LOL! Guest guest
Therese, I agree the videotapes can be really handy - but, when the behaviors learned from them become destructive, I was relieved to know that when I took that particular video away, the behavior also went away.... I just wish I could make a video with all the wonderful things I would like to do!!! I keep trying new videos too - no more Wiggles, now he likes dogs, so I have found " Air Bud " so far - my daughter will let me know when there's a scene in there that he will eventually find that will be inappropriate.... then, I'll move onto another video!
