Guest guest Posted January 23, 2011 Report Share Posted January 23, 2011 DANCE THERAPY WORKSHOP FOSTERING RECOVERY FROM RELATIONAL TRAUMA At the 92nd Street Y, Harkness Dance Center, NYC Alan , MA, BC-DMT, LCAT, LPC, NCC Grounded in theories of the psychophysiology of trauma and recovery, this course combines lecture and discussion, video screenings, group improvisational structures, and experiential exercises, which together may help deepen awareness of the challenges facing, and resources available to, both survivors of severe relational traumas and their care providers. Students will develop skills for self-care, and for the implementation of dance/movement therapy interventions that may assist trauma-affected individuals regain self-esteem and restored self-efficacy. Students seeking Alternate Route credit are to read Trauma and Recovery by Judith Herman in advance of the first session. Herman’s pivotal, three-phase recovery model of safety, remembrance and mourning, and reconnection will serve as a primary reference for the development of a DMT treatment plan for a theoretical traumatized client.
