Irma so much you say is so familiar. I too have the feeling about

being challenged and excited about the advocating for most of the

time and other times I feel like I don't want to do this any more. That

seems to happen when I feel like no one is listening and it seems so

obvious to me. Then we see the progress and happy times like 's

birthday, glad he enjoyed it, I think I forgot to wish him a Happy

Birthday.

Recently 's supervisor at work was on a two week vacation. In the

past when she has not been there has had a difficult time. This

time the Program Manager told me how proud she was of him during that

time. I told her I was happy to hear this as usually all we hear is

when he is doing something wrong. She told dh this again when he was

there one Thursday working with the Lucent Pioneer group and that they

were using some of Barbara Doyle's strategies and they were working. I

have mentioned to the residence we would like to hear some of the good

things he does and if he is having fun on activities and no responses.

Time will tell. Louise

Boy your comment " Dr. Carbone had mentioned at the Conference that I had

attended last

April " Children do not fail to learn, teachers fail to teach. " Brought

back memories. Over 30 years ago we had a meeting with the school for

over some issue that I can't remember now. I remember Andy dh

wrote a letter to the district and in part said, " if the student hasn't

learned, the teacher hasn't taught. " Guess Andy and Dr. Carbone have

the same thoughts. Yes, it is so heart breaking when you know something

is going on and they are unable to express it. Hope you will get

answers to why was upset. Then sometimes we have to interpret

what they are saying. Last week we took a hearing aid to at work

after having gone to Audiology to get a new tube for his ear mold. Now

this was 's left aid. His supervisor wasn't there that day and

pointed to his left ear, gave her sign, and signed hurt. I thought OK

maybe he thinks Lynda's ear hurts and that is why she wasn't there.

Later talked to Lynda and she explained. The Friday before she did have

an earache, she then took off a couple vacation days after the holiday

but he didn't understand that, knew she had an earache when he last

saw her and thought she still had it as to why she wasn't there.

Thought that pretty smart of to put the thoughts together to tell

us what he did. You have to know all the pieces to put some of these

stories together but when you get them it makes sense.

The only way we can usually tell how is really feeling about

something or someone is by his expressions or how he acts. has not

seemed happy when it comes time to go back to his home. Or, he has been

agreeable to go back and when he gets there you can see the change in

his affect to getting upset about something easily. Our daughters have

said the same thing as stayed with them on the weekends we were on

vacation. They noticed as we have that when he comes home he has been

in a good mood and you can see the difference when he goes back. There

is one staff that he just isn't happy to see. Last night when we took

him back that staff wasn't working and he was happy to see the home

manager who was working at his house that night. For months we have

been weighing different options and hopefully will be making a decision

soon.

Hi Irma,

The arrest of this child brings back many unpleasant memories. I have since

learned that this is not the norm but not uncommon in any state. The school

district personnel are all guilty. The OP & A's in the states are great

advocates. Hopefully this child will survive this one. Zeb did fine but I still

harbor

plenty of resentment.

Hi Irma,

It's better to have what you requested in writing for documentation. It is

good practice to keep everything in a file in the event you need it for future

advocating. You never know. Zeb is a little punchy these days too. The days are

getting shorter and school is getting harder as the year progresses. He

refused to go to school today. I have been fighting asthmatic bronchitis for

weeks

and I did not feel well enough to battle with him this morning nor did I need

to get a call from the school. I took the easy way out.

Hi Irma,

I was hoping Zeb's day off would be a break too. He snuck a small toy in his

pocket this am and I knew he would give the school staff a hard time with it

and that he did. I would love to take a nap but too many people know where I

live and my tel#. My door is never locked, remember I have the grandfather's in

and out all day too. I need to find a nice hotel,LOL.
