Guest guest
I do have contact info. I was wondering on how people NOT in that community see it. Like fine cream rising to the top.... Guest guest
I had a group of clients (5)all mostly severe and profound who did that last year, had a special house built for them and everything. Parents (and the young adults now) have known eachother for years and have grown up together, they went through Opportunity village and had many fund raisers to help raise the $$$$ for the place and they use their many waiver services and medicaid and insurance for those who have for their care, and many activities. the whole community helped and still hleps from what i hear, Its just like living at homebut with their lifelong school buddies, and with all the top of the line techno gadgets etc. shawna
Guest guest
<<With all the money coming to PA from gambling and with our wonderful legislature, I am sure that by the time Elie reaches working age, there will be PLENTY of waiver funds in PA. Then when MAddie is old enough, she will be able to slide right in!!!! So Melmark, Pathway, the home and programs in TROY - we will just pick what is best for our child - no problem!!Sara>> Hi, Everyone.....Snicker, snicker....not in our life time, Sara!!! I am sure that $$$ will go to line the pockets of our 'wonderful' legislators. Margaret
Guest guest
Hi Sara, I bet Elie is enjoying camp having friends that makes him feel needed/accepted & wanted. That is beautiful that he fits in. I'm hoping for the same thing when starts attending. I have visit the Camp will be attending next year if there are not any changes now that I'm finally making the move of allowing him to attend. So far all good news from numerous parents. On the Waiver funds, I believed it was something like 3,600. Irma,16,DS/ASD > > Irma: Sounds like you are going to get the waiver funds that I have been talking about. HAve they told you if there is a " cap " on how much you can get for ? > > Elie is at camp now. He was supposed to come home today, but his assistant camp director who is also ELie's habilitation worker called and asked if Elie could stay at camp during " intercamp " (between sessions) as everyone was having such a good time and ELie was behaving so well. Camp is a great growing experience for all of us! > > > Sara - Choose to make lemonade, not complain about the lemons.

Zeb has pushed and scratched school staff when pushed to frustration beyond his words. The school staff always has justification for their so called punishments to push Zeb beyond what so called normal people would strike back. I usually cannot get any explanation from Zeb until a few days after an incident and he will recall events out of the blue without prompting. I am routinely but politely called a liar by school staff. The school is asking for revisions to Zeb's BIP. I recently suggested that they write one for me when I am verbally attacked by school staff. I may have to first sped kid to quit school at 16. Needed to vent tonight. Hi Sara, Poor Elie, isn't there anything the school can come up with so Elie is spared the fire drills? Elie probably likes all the things that you mentioned but not school. Zeb loves his teachers, dislikes the aide, dislikes one of the lunchaides and dislikes doing schoolwork. The classroom teacher has separated the aide from him as much as he can. I don't think he likes her either, LOL. The lunchaide repeatedly asks Zeb not too talk at lunch, how stupid, he tells her it's on my IEP( talks anyway) and that is true,LOL. He does the schoolwork but would rather stay home and watch tv. I bet Elie would too. If I can get Zeb to stay until age 16, forget 21, it would be a miracle. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 11 DS/OCD/ASD? Guest guest
Hi Sara, Remarkable job you've accomplished with the school, keeping them informed of what has worked for Elie. Yep! Its always making sure we follow up with the school team to make sure it continues. If the teacher is clueless on how to figure out any other teaching strategy when all other have failed, they should always be open minded and at least try it out and not bury a(modified)teaching technique when a parent is willing to share some information that will be very helpful for the child. Glad Elie's teacher was willing to listen after the discovering of the book. Sad part about this it is usually us parents having to invent/design/request methods for our children. I for once would like to hear something from 's teacher telling me something like " I wanted to try (this or that)or we've been working on this and it seems like he will succeed in this area once taught, so would you like for us to continue with this new teaching technique? " " I would also like to invite you to also observe or willing to have a parent teacher conference to discuss who, how, when, etc. to reach a goal for _____. " But, in reality its such a dream. Instead I'm the one who finds myself yak, yak, yak, asking away. I may know my son but I know during his middle school years he had the best years learning and I was content, spoiled and loved it! Since he is on his second year of High school, I can not afford battling too much losing any of his time. So my minds spins and spins with concerns and try not to throw in the towel and continue pushing in what I believe he can do or learn. Thanks for sharing your story. That is great to read that Elie can read. Are these special books that you've created for him. Would you say they are similar like Interactive Reading books? Irma,16,DS/ASD > We have taken that book and some other special books and translated them > into PECS from Writing 2000. then Elie can read them almost alone. > > I have decided that teachers are really hired help to do our bidding (catch > the negativity???) and therefore. Elie is so lucky to him as a friend and to experience a normal social life. He ran onto the street to keep Mike on his toes,LOL. They most likely are afraid the clients will drop the boxes on the job coaches. Waiting for the scoop on your meeting. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 12 DS/OCD/ASD?
