Guest guest
Write of Passage: a unique 7-week writing group to support personal growth and creativity Dear Colleagues: I have two spaces left for the next Write of Passage that you or a client might find deeply supportive and enriching. This is a very small and intimate group for women only. It's primarily a writing group, although I use free-form drawing in one session, and have a large sketch pad and pastels available for anyone who would like to work in visual rather than verbal language throughout. I welcome any questions you might have about referring someone to this group. Please write or give me a call. Contact information is at the bottom of this post. Best wishes, t Bruce, Ph.D. Tuesdays, April 5 - May 17 271 Madison Ave., Suite 708 (Midtown Family Therapy offices) NYC 10016 $235 for all 7 sessions, includes informational handouts and art supplies Do you have a client who likes to write and would like to put writing into their healing process? Would you like to learn how to use journaling, fairy tale, and the structures, images, characters, and language of story in your practice? When someone undertakes a great work -- whether it's getting well, rebuilding a life after loss, seeking greater purpose, or starting a creative project -- they step out on an archetypal journey to wholeness that people have been taking for thousands of years to heal and upgrade their lives. Amazingly, this road of trials and triumphs also reenacts the first great journey in life, through childhood to adulthood. In my own experience and working with countless others, creative struggle in adulthood brings to light buried parts of yourself that need nourishment before you can become whole and fulfill your natural potential. This is why we get stuck: to get whole. Working in a metaphorical, right-brain story format such as the mythic journey provides safe access to those places in the body, mind, and spirit that lie beyond the reach of memory and ordinary language. The structure of story -- crisis, struggle, and transformation -- allows safe release of difficult emotions while at the same time mapping a path forward to a personal grail. Using stories and poetry from the world's great oral and written traditions combined with story writing/drawing exercises and sharing, this unique writing group will provide a scaffold on which to build a new life, commit to a creative project, navigate a difficult life passage, or expand and enrich life. This is the last time I'll be able to offer this group for such a low fee. Summer and fall sessions are going up to $250.
