Another note about this which is sickening - I heard from some parents who have children in group homes who do not have enough money to buy food ( $150 a month) they are having to go to food banks to get food for the kids. How can this be the wealthiest nation?

September 15, 2008 (Monday)

10:00 AM - Meet at CALIF to begin march to state office building

10:45 AM - Rally at state office building (march ends there)

THE MARCH TO THE STATE BUILDING:

To participate in the march down South Spring Street to the state office building (where the Governor and other state officials have offices in Los Angeles) meet at:

CALIF (Communities Actively Living Independent and Free)

634 South Spring Street (between 6th and 7th Streets)

Parking: CALIF says there are several "Joe's Parking" lots in the nearby area and should cost about $6 for the entire day. THE RALLY AT THE STATE BUILDING

If you are not able to join the march, you can participate in the rally where the march will end, at the state office building where the Governor and other state officials have offices (officially called the " Reagan State Office Building")

WHAT

March and rally protesting the budget delay and its impact - and fighting for a responsible, compassionate budget, is organized by the central Los Angeles independent living center (Communities Actively Living Independent and Free or "CALIF") headed by executive director Lillibeth Navarro, along with many other disability, mental health, senior organizations, providers, groups and individuals, including regional centers (Westside Regional Center and others), other indpendent living centers, providers like UCP of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, autism advocacy groups, family resource centers, and more. [note: I will be there to join and support the march and rally on Monday and I hope everyone in the Los Angeles area will too - Marty Omoto, CDCAN]

WHO SHOULD COME AND PARTICIPATE

Organizations and providers, advocacy groups and individuals who provide advocacy, services or supports to children and adults with disabilities, people with mental health needs, seniors, low income families and children, their families, people with MS, Alzheimers' and other disorders, people with traumatic brain and other injuries, their families, community organizations, providers and workers who provide supports and services WHAT TO BRING

CALIF and the other march and rally organizers suggest:

* Yourself, your family, workers, neighbors, friends

* Bring noisemakers

* Bring posters protesting the budget delay and cuts.

* Bring photos of people impacted (including photos of loved ones)

* Bring water, snacks, other food and sunblock * Wear comfortable clothing, shoes

LIMITED TRANSPORTATION AVAILABLE

Very limited transportation from Westside Regional Center to the rally location at the state office building will be available on September 15, 2008 (Monday morning)
