Guest guest
I spoke with the Obama campaign just now. I explained our position to a volunteer (lawyer) who was very receptive to my concerns about vaccine safety and mandatory vaccination. She is sending an email to the policy people. Hundreds of calls will be effective, I think. As a lifelong Democrat and assumptive Obama supporter I am now officially on the fence. I do not know for whom l will vote. I cannot in good conscience - for my children - commit to Obama based on what I understand so far to be his position. I am also not comfortable with McCain because no matter how honorable he is, and willing to confront pharma and accept our views on vaccines, he is still largely under the influence of the Bush/Rove/Republican political machine that has catered to the pharmaceutical interests for the last eight years. We need to make the politicians respond openly and honestly to our concerns. As of today, I am officially on the fence. We will see what happens.Call the campaigns and make your views heard on vaccine safety and choice in vaccines.Thank you, , for initiating this call-in effort.BobSo I know there are many of us with differing political party affiliations/opinions/leanings but I am hoping maybe some might join me in an a plea to have Obama meet with ANYONE with our prospective and from our side. I called the campaign office after reading today's AOA piece. I told them they are about to lose a very big voting block and from Senator Obama's comments I could tell he has not sat down and/or seen the science with anyone from our community. His stance on science is strong because he disagrees so strongly with Bush's "non science" stance. I begged that time is short and the information we have is too important and too complex for a question answer session at a town hall meeting. I was clear that Senator McCain has already done this and that Hillary Clinton has also seen much of the science. He personally needs some exposure to the science, personal nature of our situations and directly from someone from our community. I gave several names, including Dr. Poling and others to have him reach out to or to myself or any other A-CHAMP representative. I left my name, number and e-mail. Is this a "Hail " plea? Yes, it is but nothing is impossible and if we are going to educate him the best time is now before one or the other is elected into office. I was clear that Bush has given us 8 years of brick walls and no one in this community will give a chance to anyone who might possibly shut the door on our largest concerns. So, Anyone want to join me in calling campaign headquarters to second what I requested?? - Chapman chapnallicomcast (DOT) net PS I also said Autism Speaks does not speak for a large number of the autism community and that is not who I am requesting he meet with. Obama's campaign number (she thought maybe I should call the legislative office but I told her this was also a campaign issue with a large voting block, I think we should do both)PLEASE BE CURTIOUS WHEN CALLING….This is a plea to show our science not a lynching. There is an option to speak to a staffer/volunteer. She tried to type everything I was saying so we should probably coordinate talking points. Talking points-Let us show you the science, biological science, mercury toxicity science, etc-Not antivaccine for safe vaccines-We meet with legislators often and name them ( I told them I sat with Kennedy's staff for 2 hours in June this is what might have hooked her)-Autism Speaks is run like a corporation not a charity by "the parents", so they don't speak for us-Bush is not our friend (important to mention since he wants to totally change the status quo)-McCain has met with us and has seen the science and understands the toxicity of thimerosal and he has promised to take on the drug companies-We are a huge voting block and have grassroots organization full of passion to fight for our kids and his (he loves grass root orgs)End with Please meet with one of us personally for longer than a question answer session. Guest guest
: I was nominated, at one point, to be on the Obama Disabilities Advisory Group by the Chairman of the Radiology Department at a prominent medical school, but my views were considered too radical. Actually, not my views, but what I did for a living... I was told that using hyperbaric oxygen to treat neurological injuries was to far out of the mainstream to allow me to be a member of this advisory group. I have to tell you that I found that deeply disturbing. I doubt Obama himself has any idea that the CDC has been co-opted, at least the Infectious Disease Division, by Pharma to the extent that it has been. That the EPA has been neutered and that the FDA has been turned into a trade organization for cooperate interests. There are very few people who know the full extent of what has taken place and the horrible crimes (and I can't think of any other more appropriate word) that have taken place and inflicted on the American people because of this corporate takeover. Now I sound like I have radical views, but I have just bee stating cold hard facts. Politicians get surrounded with large collections of fools. It is hard to penetrate the wall they set up to insulate the politician. Will Obama be any different? Guest guest
Done. I spoke to a polite, not disinterested young guy about our concerns, about our hopes that Senator Obama's message of change would also include change to the lethal vaccine policies and corrupt science of the past. I spoke about my twins who are unambiguously, clinically documented to have vaccine injuries. I asked that someone from the campaign staff send a message on to the Senator that he might contact one of the leading " safer vaccine " organizations which have done such a phenomenal job cataloging the science on our side, such as A-CHAMP, Generation Rescue, etc., ANYTHING other than Autism Speaks which only represents the same corporate agenda which Obama has pleged to remove himself from. I gave my name and email. Give me a shout, , if you need to put anything else together on this score. > > So I know there are many of us with differing political party > affiliations/opinions/leanings but I am hoping maybe some might join me in > an a plea to have Obama meet with ANYONE with our prospective and from our > side. > > > > I called the campaign office after reading today's AOA piece. Guest guest
Hi Bob, Who knows who filled out the ACHAMP questionaire? " I do not support selective vaccination " is a direct quote from Obama. All of the strategies parents use to protect their children from over-vaccination - slow down, spread out, less toxic, titer tests instead of booster shots - amount to selective vaccination. Obama's position appears to be: follow the CDC schedule, period. If Obama does not mean what he said, please ask his campaign to clarify when you call. > > > > > So I know there are many of us with differing political party > > affiliations/opinions/leanings but I am hoping maybe some might join > > me in an a plea to have Obama meet with ANYONE with our prospective > > and from our side. > > > > > > > > I called the campaign office after reading today's AOA piece. Guest guest
, Obama and Biden have both filled it out, but McCain and Palin have not yet. The quote does seem to conflict with his response I will also be asking for clarification, but I think the real problem is that his information has all come from Autism Speaks and no one from our community has given him the science yet. Guest guest
Hi , What I would like to know is who did he say this to? You? If not, who spoke to him, where did he say it and when? Is it on audio or video? With all of the smearing going on with both candidates, I'm not ready to accept anything unless it can be substantiated. Otherwise I will disregard it as rumor. > > > > > > > > So I know there are many of us with differing political party > > > affiliations/opinions/leanings but I am hoping maybe some might join > > > me in an a plea to have Obama meet with ANYONE with our prospective > > > and from our side. > > > > > > > > > > > > I called the campaign office after reading today's AOA piece. Guest guest
The Obama campaign was returned from someone connected to his campaign. It was an authorized response. This was completely separate from my conversation with a volunteer staffer today, who promised merely to forward my comments to a policy staffer in the campaign. My questions for Obama are identical to yours - we need clarification. A proviso to this is that an off the cuff response to a question posed by an individual at a campaign event is not a policy statement. It certainly implicates policy because the candidate has expressed a candid view. We need to push for a policy statement clarifying the off the cuff statement. That said, my concerns about Obama's statement are the same as yours. I am in no way defending the statement. I am very concerned about it.Hi Bob,Who knows who filled out the ACHAMP questionaire? Guest guest
I should have said, thank you, .Thank you, . Your comment is more responsive to 's question, which I misunderstood, than the message I just posted.A-CHAMP's Autism Action Network has posted the candidate's responses on our new web site.http://autismactionnetwork.orgOn Sep 8, 2008, at 4:02 PM, Chap'N'Alli wrote:,Obama and Biden have both filled it out, but McCain and Palin have not yet. The quote does seem to conflict with his response I will also be asking for clarification, but I think the real problem is that his information has all come from Autism Speaks and no one from our community has given him the science yet. Guest guest
It will be nice to see if this actually gets these answers from the Obama camp as opposed to many just blindly assuming he will because he is a democrat. I, like Bob Krakow am on the fence that if either of these candidates will make a strong public declaration of action they will take on this issue they will win my vote. This from someone who thinks votes mean absolutely nothing in this country and that the differences between the parties are intended to provide Pavlovian responses from the masses while the real power brokers do their damage behind the scenes. Mentioning the word autism in a speech doesn't do anything constructive for me, it actually angers me that they feel they can just throw the word out there and that it is enough to sway anyone one way or the other. It is exciting to see the activists involved in this community that are willing to hold their feet to the fire and refuse to eat sound bites as a real meal. I am proud that my wife is one of these warriors fighting for my family and yours playing with them at their own silly corrupt game. If in fact this is successful it might just sway me to back off of my cynical (but realistic!) views of where we are as a nation and faux-democracy right now. You rock and are an amazing woman - just one of the many reasons that I love you so much. This bill, introduced by Sen. Barack Obama, would establish an interagency working group to foster research and the translation of that research into personalize medicine. It would authorize $150 million for pharmacogenomics research and translation of results into the clinical setting. The bill is focused primarily on FDA and contains sections regarding user fees and drug safety monitoring procedures. As amended, the bill also contains several provisions of interest to NIH. First, the bill would expand the Clinicaltrials.gov registry to include mandatory reporting of certain drug and device clinical trials. Guest guest
Great job, . I just tried to call myself and was unable to speak with anyone. I got a recording saying all their volunteers were busy and to please call back in a few moments. Not sure if I will be able to do that. We need an “inside” connection. Pamela From: EOHarm [mailto:EOHarm ] On Behalf Of Chap'N'Alli Sent: Monday, September 08, 2008 1:48 PM To: EOHarm Subject: I just called Obama's office with a plea So I know there are many of us with differing political party affiliations/opinions/leanings but I am hoping maybe some might join me in an a plea to have Obama meet with ANYONE with our prospective and from our side. I called the campaign office after reading today's AOA piece. I told them they are about to lose a very big voting block and from Senator Obama's comments I could tell he has not sat down and/or seen the science with anyone from our community. His stance on science is strong because he disagrees so strongly with Bush's " non science " stance. Is this a " Hail " plea? Yes, it is but nothing is impossible and if we are going to educate him the best time is now before one or the other is elected into office. I was clear that Bush has given us 8 years of brick walls and no one in this community will give a chance to anyone who might possibly shut the door on our largest concerns. So, Anyone want to join me in calling campaign headquarters to second what I requested?? - Chapman chapnalli@... PS I also said Autism Speaks does not speak for a large number of the autism community and that is not who I am requesting he meet with. Obama's campaign number (she thought maybe I should call the legislative office but I told her this was also a campaign issue with a large voting block, I think we should do both) PLEASE BE CURTIOUS WHEN CALLING….This is a plea to show our science not a lynching. There is an option to speak to a staffer/volunteer. She tried to type everything I was saying so we should probably coordinate talking points. Talking points -Let us show you the science, biological science, mercury toxicity science, etc -Not antivaccine for safe vaccines -We meet with legislators often and name them ( I told them I sat with Kennedy's staff for 2 hours in June this is what might have hooked her) -Autism Speaks is run like a corporation not a charity by " the parents " , so they don't speak for us -Bush is not our friend (important to mention since he wants to totally change the status quo) -McCain has met with us and has seen the science and understands the toxicity of thimerosal and he has promised to take on the drug companies -We are a huge voting block and have grassroots organization full of passion to fight for our kids and his (he loves grass root orgs) End with Please meet with one of us personally for longer than a question answer session. It's too complex and way too important not to.
Guest guest
That was so sweet- what a team you two must make! For the record, I am extremely proud of too : ) But I digress. Like you and Bob, I am also on the fence with this election. I thought I had made my choice this morning, but backed off. This is the single most difficult choice of any election that I've encountered from the time that I was old enough to vote. As another fellow friend and advocate said, and I'm paraphrasing, " we need something more of substance from both candidates " . I agree with . Let's hope that McCain and Palin will at least fill out the A-CHAMP questionnaire, and that we get something substantial from Obama and Biden. I would personally like them to outline exactly how they intend to benefit our children and reform vaccine safety issues and public health policy. > > > > So I know there are many of us with differing political party > > affiliations/opinions/leanings but I am hoping maybe some might join > me in > > an a plea to have Obama meet with ANYONE with our prospective and > from our > > side. > > > > > > > > I called the campaign office after reading today's AOA piece. Guest guest
So did I. I guess it's no secret which one of us likes PDA's….LOL! BTW, there is no thanks necessary, this was something I felt compelled to do as I am similarlly in a quandry as many others have stated and I was not comfortable with this. I think each candidate would bring different things but I didn't think that I had tried enough to gain the ear of Obama or someone in his staff. Guest guest
Hi , Senator Obama spoke with Claudine Liss. I do not think it was recorded - but it's not a rumor. I was not in the conversation with Obama and Claudine, but I was with Claudine as soon as she got out of the event. For her first person account: http://www.ageofautism.com/2008/09/obama-i-am-not.html#more As Bob said, we need clarity from both Obama and McCain personally. Either Obama or McCain will be personally signing off on the appointments of the new heads of HHS, CDC and NIH. The new appointees will have priorities coming from the White House. Vaccine safety will either be a priority, or it won't. Their Candidate's positions on vaccine safety will be a part of millions of voting decisions. Guest guest
> > " I do not support selective vaccination " is a direct quote from Obama. , The problem is that this quote lacks meaningful context. There are politicians, for example that are pro-life personally, but are not against pro-choice as policy. I think it rather specious, and tabloid, based on a single quote, for further example, to argue that this means Obama is against all the exemptions in vaccine laws across the states. Come on, is Obama really against medical exemptions for vaccination -- which is a selection? I doubt it. I am trying to point out how easy some folks go for the throat of either candidate based on the flimsiest data. The AofA piece is tabloid journalism -- internet road kill. They have done better. Guest guest
Lenny,While your points are, as usual, well taken (well, not always) I think the source is credible and the candidate needs to clarify this statement about "selective vaccination". It is in his self-interest to clarify his statement. Also, is it really "tabloid" journalism for a blog to post this first-hand report of a conversation with Obama? It is highly newsworthy for our community. We need this information and the candidates need to be explicit about where they stand. You may doubt Obama's opposition to medical exemption and you may be right - I hope so. But now there is a question about it due to a statement the candidate himself made. It is his responsibility to clarify his remarks just as it is incumbent on the McCain campaign to clarify the many sarcastic statements their surrogates - including Palin - made in their convention speeches (the ignorant jab that Palin made about "community organizers" was particularly galling - I started my career as a lawyer as a community organizer in NYC - a demanding and important job that few take on.) The candidates all have a lot to answer for - it is their responsibility to clarify their statements.Bob> > "I do not support selective vaccination" is a direct quote from Obama.,The problem is that this quote lacks meaningful context. Guest guest
Bob. You make good points, too. " Community organizers " are not necessarily liberal do-gooders. If I remember correctly, the government itself sponsors community activism, VISTA, the domestic peace corps that's non-partisan. Many church groups are involved with community organizing, too. Tabloid journalism is still journalism, true and to that extent it gets the word out. I thought the AofA piece was too thin to get much exercised over. I'm giving Obama the benefit of the doubt on this, a pass which is also thin. Guest guest
Lenny,I really don't even understand the cheap swipe at community organizers from a politician - local politician - and former PTA member. Community organizers are nothing more or less than individuals working to press certain issues that are important to the community. They are almost identical to political organizers but are not formally associated with a political party. Everyone who speaks out on an issue is, to some extent, a community organizer. For a politician to criticize this kind of activity is nonsensical. Community organizers can be identified with any political entity or ideology. In Obama's case, instead of choosing employment for high compensation with a law firm he chose poorly compensated work helping community members address all kinds of issues.Gov. Palin appeared to criticize that as irresponsible, or a job without responsibility. She either has no idea what she was saying and was mouthing the words fed to her by speechwriters, or was simply taking a cheap shot that she knew would be popular with the ignorant, or both. Her speech was filled with this kind of empty but crowd pleasing attack. Not very impressive to me.As far as Obama goes, we cannot give him a pass on this. It is the unwitting pass we have given Democrats and some Republicans on this for years that has permitted an ethic to prevail that would force the most personal kinds of insults on our bodies without any choice or recourse. True, there should be an opportunity for Obama to clarify his statement one way or another, but it should not be allowed to fade as an issue. Either he said it or he did not and either he meant it or not. If Obama is as open-minded as he claims and if he truly wants to "help" people he must understand that we are all adults, we have free choice and that he cannot adopt uncritically the traditional public health mantra advanced by those who have historically seen themselves as acting in the public interest. On many levels Obama's view on freedom of choice on medical interventions must be drawn out. It affects not only vaccines but the mandatory drugging of children under the guise of mental health programs. BobBob.You make good points, too. Guest guest
, I re-read the A-CHAMP questionnaire filled out by Obama (or filled out by an aide and authorized by him) and the obvious thing that struck me about his answer to the vaccine choice question is that " screening " has little to do with vaccine choice: he answers something about believing in " screening " but that parents should have a choice. In fact, I think he just leapfrogged into another subject altogether. I think I know where that retort came from. I personally dropped off a packet of information on universal mental health screening (Teenscreen) at Obama's office last October as part of the anti- Teenscreen lobbying effort and thought that Obama's " screening " response would have been a very appropriate answer to a questionnaire on THAT subject (not a satisfying answer but an appropriate one), though not to the vaccine mandate question. Of course there is such a thing as screening for autism but no one has questioned whether this should be mandated or a choice or not simply because pediatricians often won't do it-- we're not there yet. Very strange. Seems to be a hint that he hasn't apprised himself either on the issue of vaccine dangers *or* drug dangers but simply accepts the counsel of stock " experts " on the subject (elite consensus). So I think pressing him for clarifications may also force him to look more deeply into the issue, which may be well-timed. The hallmark of lack of critical thinking is that someone assumes that the first pat answer that makes sense to them is the right one (not something any of us could be accused of since we all once vaccinated and have no done a 180). The longer they sit steeping that first impression, the more set in it becomes, so the time in which an alternate view is presented and presented well is critical. Ultimately, making the effort to squeeze out an answer could determine whether a candidate is too arrogant to be bothered with a subject. > > Lenny, > > I really don't even understand the cheap swipe at community organizers > from a politician - local politician - and former PTA member. > Community organizers are nothing more or less than individuals working > to press certain issues that are important to the community.
