I would like to make a correction for this poster to the group. I am

a medical professional, and have personal experience with this within

my family, cleft palate is not a disability or reuire a child to have

any special needs interventions. I would be surgeries required to

correct the malformation of the roof of the mouth that doesn't fully

close, that's about the extent of it. There are not social, or

learning or functional issues beyond initial feeding assistance with

a longer nipple until the child meets weight requirements to have the

surgery to close the palate, after that there is not much, some kids

and I mean some kids not all require minimal speech therapy probably

equivalent to a typical child who can't say " r " properly or has a

lisp. That's it. I'm sure the McCains are compationate people but

not much horn tooting for this one I'm afraid.

I was not going to reply to this on list for fear of starting up another long string of political discussions, but....

Yes. I am still very much in contact with Senator McCain's Senate office staff in D.C. as well as his campaign HQ Health Advisory staff. ly, I prefer face to face with the Senator but he's been rather busy as of late. LOL

I have to hang on to hope, without we'd have relatively nothing left.

Thanks to you, too, Lin! You are right there on the forefront! It's

hard to believe in a Country as great as ours, that we have to fight

so hard for the lives of our children! My God! If the number of

affected and chronically ill kids continues to climb, who will keep

things going when this generation of leaders no longer can????

We're all acutely aware that vaccines and autism are not the only

issues that need to be addressed in this election. I fully

understand that for this reason, it's important to be open to what

both Candidates have to say. Personally, I'm an Independent who

voted for Ron in the Primaries. But I know that I have to take

a partisan stance in this Presidential election. I feel that either

Candidate is capable of leading the Country while protecting our

freedom, but at this time, I am still waiting for some positive

feedback from the Dems when it comes to the issue closest to my

heart.

One of my grandson's (age 9) has a football game this afternoon,

while his 5 year old sister is a cheerleader for his team. At the

same time, their 7 year old brother is going to a football clinic

for kids with autism... guess which one had the flu shot????

.... THIS is why I am leaning towards McCain/Palin right now...

But I will continue to wait and listen. I want to see some hard

evidence that our kids are more important than deep pockets and

greedy fingers...

Thank You, to everyone on this group. No matter where we stand

politically, we all know that we are on the same side. As long as we

hound 'em, they gotta listen!
