Guest guest
Apr 29: Henkel's Movement TalksDon't Dis-Abilities: Where Dance and Disability Collidewith Heidi Latsky and Kitty LunnTwo choreographers working with dancers with disabilities have two very different philosophies and approaches. Heidi Latsky seeks to bring contemporary dance to a broad audience in a visceral and emotional way with performers whose unique attributes, physical and otherwise, are honored and utilized in highly dynamic, virtuosic and provocative ways; and to expose people to alternative ways of looking at their lives through community programs that emphasize discourse, experiential risk-taking and body work. Kitty Lunn, since breaking her back in 1987, teaches other dance educators to bring the joy and drama of motion and movement to a new level of inclusion by expanding the boundaries of dance and changing the world’s perception of what a dancer is. Although she uses a wheelchair, Kitty continues to take a ballet class every day and has developed wheelchair dance techniques strongly rooted in classical ballet and modern dance.Fri, Apr 29, 8 pm, Free92Y- Buttenwieser Hall92nd Street & Lexington Ave.New York CityTo RSVP, call
