Guest guest
Greetings: I was cleaning out some favorites in my computer at work and came across Wrong Planet and an interesting response to a post on a blog from Carley from GRASP which is a support group for AS adults from the east coast with sister chapters in other areas and very successful. It was over a letter or statement he sent out to the public in support of an Autism Speaks Board member. I posted the letter on ASPIRES. Apparently someone from Autism Planet posted a piece for their blog with a different opinion and they posted it on their home page with PRIDE. finally responds and I love his message. Some folks with AS and you can include anyone else in this category NS and others are so blinded by depression, anxiety, etc., they cannot convey their thoughts or opinions in a way that is acceptable in our society. These are my words and not his but the gist I got for his post? Our brains are wired differently and you may get another message?? There is a difference in advocating for a cause or point and pure hate speech for the other side. When your words are pure hate for the other side, NO ONE hears YOUR message they just get angry and attack or IGNORE YOU. We see it on this board and if life every day. It is about growing and moving FF in your life and why ASPIRES was started and all about. ASPIRES has been lucky to have many member who have climbed the mountain and many starting their journey. It is different when someone calls someone with AS a spade than someone with NS. His response reminded me of Meyer's aka GRUMPY and a past co-founder of ASPIRES with AS. has no tolerance for bad behavior or anyone with NS that puts up with it as many old timers will remember. <Wink> He is a tireless advocate for adults with AS but has zero tolerance for anyone that thinks their label gives them the right to abuse others whether they realize they are doing it or not.
