About the IMNF and the FFSF Research Project:

The Institute for Music and Neurologic Function was founded in 1995 on the idea

that music has unique powers to heal, rehabilitate, and inspire -- and that we

can use music therapy to restore and improve our physical, emotional, and

neurological health. The Institute is dedicated to advancing scientific inquiry

on music and the brain and to developing clinical treatments to benefit people

of all ages.

The 2009-2010 FFSF grant project aims to contribute to enhanced community-based

and home health care services for over 1,500 elderly patients at various sites

of Comprehensive Care Management (CCM), members of BAFHS, throughout

metropolitan and upstate New York areas. In order to meet the patients' complex

medical and psychosocial needs, the Project is designed to provide various music

therapy programs, including group music therapy at day health centers,

home-based individual music therapy in conjunction with home caregiver training,

and staff training at day health centers. An integral component of the project

is pre- and post-program evaluations on all participants so as to ensure quality

services and patient's benefits.

Location:

Various CCM day health care sites and participants' residences throughout

Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens or Westchester

Hours:

Approximately 8 – 12 hours per week. Hours may increase upon research demand as

well as the assistant's skills and experience.

Qualifications:

An ideal candidate should be a student of college or above education pursuing a

degree in music therapy, music education, psychology, or another health care

related field. An ideal candidate would be interested in 1) learning about music
