Ginger,

Do you have a number for the station? I'd be happy to call or e-mail

I'd like some help with my local station. I've already had some dealing

with the station manager about this. He wouldn't even consider removing

Savage's program. He defended Savage on Friday. He needs to know this

is wrong and he must be held accountable.

I'm creating a post now with the information for my local station.

Thanks,

Just heard back from the station. They are going to have me on the air

on Wed. morning.

When I called him last Friday, he said that they didn't know what they

were going to do about Savage yet, but were considering on doing a show

on the subject this morning by their local morning team. He said he

was interested in me participating in the broadcast, but I didn't hear

back from the station.

Here is my letter to him this morning.

Please join me in helping him understand how detrimental Savage's words

are to our kids (and our society) and encouraging him to drop the

Savage show.

Ginger-

This guy at yesterday’s rally had a really good point. He said that people in society will assume that all children with autism are spoiled brats and this will lead to “child abuse” or harassment.

Picture this- Mom is shopping with ASD kid. ASD kid is mad because a light is broken (whatever) and starts screaming. Man comes over and tells the Mom, “shut your stupid, idiot kid up. I don’t care if he has autism- that’s all fake anyway. You are just using it as an excuse for bad parenting. You should die!”. Fight breaks out, world blows up, yatta yatta yatta... You get my point.

Good luck.

Too true.

Some one else brought up the worse senario, that some bus driver is

going to be alone with a child, where mom can't defend him, and is

going to decide that he needs disciplining.

I have a girlfriend with a VERY verbal son with extremely high anxiety

whose school driver scolded him for talking to him so much. When he

gets anxious he talks more, and when he is scolded he gets more

anxious, so the driver was just feeding the anxious talking by scolding

him for the anxious talking. The driver went as far as to record the

conversations so his mom could see how "bad" he was being because he

would not stop talking when the driver told him to. Mom tried

mediating the situation, but ultimately gave up and asked for a new

driver.

I will also be bringing up the dark ages of autism during the

Bettleheim years when mom's were to blame and children were put in

institutions horribly abused and neglected. This theory of bad child

rearing was abandoned a half century ago!

Ginger-

Also remember that most of the people listening don’t have a child with autism. They don’t care about autism. They are just thinking of themselves. So, think and talk about how this affects THEM. What does it say about society in general? Abuse usually starts somewhere and moves up. What group could be next?

I said to this reporter yesterday-

“Calling a mother of an ASD kid a “refrigerator mother” is like calling an African American the “N” word.”

Connect what has happened to other groups, races, religions.... It’s all hate.

The crazy guy who killed 2 people at a Unitarian Church yesterday- he hated liberals. Hate hate hate! Savage hates liberals too.

I grow weary of Savage and wish he would grow as weary of

himself. It is difficult to believe that Savage truly cares

about the over-medicating and " mis-diagnosing " of our nation's

children. This personality cares about himself.

Ginger, in your interview you may want to highlight how society has an

interesting history of dealing with problems SO DIFFICULT, horrible,

and impossible to fathom (ex. we have a generation of children that are

in need of rescuing from environmental harm).

Our children are " inconvenient " (sorry, Al Gore) to many because they

don't always behave well, learn easily, and perform like the American

dream portrays. With autism, because it is a communication disorder,

whether with words or not, what you see is rarely what is actually

happening.

I think this man should come to my house for a weekend. We'll see

who's left standing. We'll see who's a man and who's a putz. And

we'll see who's really teachable.
