Guest guest
Hi Everyone ~ I am new here. My name is Qadoshyah Fish. I am the oldest of 11 children (being 16 yrs old). My mom just had twins 8 wks ago and Twin A (the boy, Osiyyah [The Lord Is My Maker, in Hebrew]) has DS. He is a major blessing and we are so thankful for him. My mom is also on this board. Her name is Kim Fish. Anyways, I am studying all about DS, everything from the genetics/chromosones/DNA, to every single possible health concern. I hope to put a website up in the near future with tons of info on it about DS. At the moment I am studying about weight gain in DS babies, as that is the pressing issue at the moment. So, I have some questions for you all - Normal babies gain about 20-30 grams a day. Our Dr. is expecting and pushing my DS brother (Osiyyah) to gain as much as a normal baby. Currently he is gaining 10 grams a day. He is only being breastfed. The doctors would like us to use NeoSure formula every time and we would like to continue on the breastmilk. Also, BTW, he does not have any heart problems (he had an echocardiogram in the NICU and his heart is perfect). - What did your DS baby gain a day, a month and a week? - Did he gain slower than a normal baby would? - If he did gain slower, why do you think he gained slower? Because of the DS condition or because of something else? - Did you only breastfeed your baby? - Or, did you supplement? - If you supplemented what did you use? - What was the average weight gain? Thanks very much for the help !! If you have any other info, links, etc, I'd appreciate it ! Since I am hoping in the near future to put up a DS info website, I may ask some of you, if I can use your " experience " as an example on certain parts. But, that'll be a little bit later . . . (within the next 6 mths, Lord willing). Qadoshyah hoppinherdofhares@...
