Hi Janice & all the other Moms,

Thank you all so much for sending emails to my question re rarity of

identical twins w/ DS. I also appreciate all the other emails that

get posted, too. I'm learning alot. Thank goodness we all have

each other, especially to touch base with when we need some advice

or even a group hug!

As you all know, it sure can be hard some days. But I know, if you

can do it, I can do it, too! I don't feel so alone now that I know

you are there! I think you know just what I mean, ie, when I'm in

the mall with my triple stroller and I get stares from strangers or

not so nice comments. I'm still learning how to deal with it all.

Or when family has all these expectations of us during the

holidays! (Not so easy to just hop in the car and visit a non-

childproof house with 3 babies, 2 w/ special needs!) And those days

when I'm overwhelmed and my babies look at me for even more

attention! Somehow I find the energy to keep giving of myself cuz

they will only be young once, right?

It will be so nice to correspond with you all as our children grow.

I've heard that we have two types of families, those that are blood-

related, and those that are your " real family " , those people in your

lives that understand and are really there for you, especially

during crises. You all feel like my real family! Many Moms emailed

me, I'm sorry I haven't had a chance to email you all individually

yet. I hope this email holds you over & that I answered all your

questions.

I have to say that tears welled up when I read one woman's email

about feeling sorry that her child with DS was met at his birth with

her tears of grief for the first two weeks! I can definitely

relate! We really are blessed! So many people can't birth any

children and look what God has given us!

Better run! It's mayhem over here this morning. Everyone's sick,

including me, with colds, coughs, etc. Happy Holidays!

Sincerely,

Granata,

Mom to Haley & Nikki, 27 mos girls, both w/DS, & , Jr., 8 mos.

looooong time. I'm a brief browser and filer of my email messages;

as any parent/relative of multiples knows, there is not much time to

just sit and leisurely read. However, enough with the excuses.

na who will be 2 years old on December 18. We also have a son

Zachary who will turn 4 years old on December 17. ( As if December

isn't already a hectic month) We share the same curiousity as you

do in " How often do identical ds births occur ? "

families in the country (CANADA) with identicals. This information

was relayed to me from the National Canadian DS Conference held in

May of this year in Newfoundland, CANADA The other families have boy

twins. I hope to receive data soon from the DS Research registery

in Western Canada. They sent us questionaires to complete so " the

girls " could be registered and included in a statistical databank.

The submission was voluntary and outlined events of my pregnancy,

the early months, programs they are involved in, health concerns and

programs available in our area.

even though it gets cold and stormy at this time of year. We look

forward to a White Christmas.
