Guest guest
I am so amazed by all the reading success stories being shared. Congratulations on your success! It is encouraging, however I find it hard to believe that we will be at that point when Gretchen is 5 or 6 since she is way behind in her verbal communication now and she is only 3.5. (Receptive skills are only slightly delayed to normal) What strategies did you use in working toward reading? Since we are currently focused on verbal expression, I cannot even begin to think about reading, but if there is something we should be doing now, then i would like to know. Gretchen signs and uses a homemade communication book. She does have some verbal expression, but we are the only ones really able to understand her. In addition to all the early intervention we received, her current therapy at preschool, the consultations with the DS Clinic at Boston's Childrens Hospital and the speech therapists we just saw at Children's Hospital, we are all confident that Gretchen will be speaking, and it is just a matter of time and continued speech therapy to get her there. I guess we are just looking for any advice you can provide. Thanks in advance! Inga mom to (7.5) and Gretchen-ds & a (3.5)
