Guest guest
Hi Everybody! I'm glad for the check-in day reminders. I usually manage to read posts, but haven't had a lot of time lately to actually post something myself. Sam and finished up their 6 weeks of summer school 2 weeks ago. Last week we had a wonderful family vacation in sunny Cancun Mexico. Our entire week was spent at the beach/pool. Sam and had fun playing in the sand and swimming. We didn't venture out much from the resort. One day we took a trip thru the coral reef in a glass bottomed boat and saw all kinds of neat fish. That and a trip to the local plaza was about the extent of our " sight seeing " . Both boys start school next Monday. Tuesday, Sam has his 4th round of follow-up hearing testing at the ENT clinic at Children's here in Dallas. He had tested for a mild loss at low tones at his annual exam back in Sept. Unfortunately on our last two follow-up visits he was either getting over an ear infection or suffering from cold/allergy symptoms, so those follow-up's weren't very conclusive. The doctor is not completely convinced he has a true hearing loss, he thinks its just the way Sam tests w/play audiometry. This time they will do OAE (oto-acoustic emissions) testing and if he fails that, they will sedate him and do an ABR. From what I've read about OAE testing, a small probe is put in the ear and the child has to sit still. Well, poor Sam has had is ears messed with so much lately that he panics when anybody even looks in his ears and he screamed bloody blue murder when he had a tympannagram done 6 weeks ago. Needless to say, I'm not anticipating that the OAE will go well and we'll end up w/the ABR afterall. Sigh. I just want an answer one way or the other and get on with whatever we need to do. I feel like I *live* at the clinic(s) at Childrens (we also go to the DS clinic and the ENT clinic there too). has come down with a rash that is taking over his belly and behind. One spot appeared on his belly a couple of weeks ago that looked like ring worm. Got some cream for it from the Ped. Well, while on vacation he became covered with spots. Took him back to the Ped when we got back and he was diagnosed with Pyriasis Rosea. They don't know what causes it, there is no treatment for it and you just have to let it run it's course (which can be up to 3 mos.) So far, I don't see him acting like it is bothering him - haven't caught him scratching at anything so that's good. Poor thing just looks like he's being over-taken by the creeping-crud! Here's a link to pictures of the boys at their riding lessons. They had started therapeutic riding in May. We've stopped for the summer and hopefully will start up again in Sept. when the weather is cooler. It's just too darned hot for horses and the kids right now!
