Guest guest
anyone else experienced this - how did you handle it. Our church is small and we are really considering trying to find something a little bigger so that the children's program is already established We have had the same situation. Except that Noah now 5 is in the 2's and 3's Sunday School Class. The teacher that does 4's and 5's does not want him in there. Also the teachers that have Jr. Church switch off and so there is one that when Noah is in there she takes him o the nursery. I have talked to them about this nicely. We have found a church where I know they will not do this it is just do we want to drive 5 minutes verses 20 minutes. I am going to wait until September and see if they promote him if not then I will be switching for good. It is hard as my husband grew up in this church and his family goes there. Guest guest
Yes, , that would be not easy to leave a church that has such deep roots with your husband. Good luck, Gail.....Mom to Bobby 10, Jillian 7, and Tara{Ds} 5 Re: Vent about Sunday School anyone else experienced this - how did you handle it. Guest guest
Robyn & , Isn't it a shame that even in church there are individuals who are clueless about children w/ DS. Our church is fairly large and we kept Zack in the nursery 1 extra year, lucky for us the Preschool (4yrs olds) teacher who has had him for the last year is a true blessing. She delights in seeing Zack accomplish things and lets him work on his own level. The Kindergarten teacher who has Zack's sister and brother this year isn't quite as understanding so we'll see what happens when he moves up at the end of the summer. Overall our whole congregation loves Zack and the early service chuckle when he goes up front for childrens church and we never no if it will be a good day or a don't pay attention day (lay on the alter, play with the sound equipment, interupt the paster, etc). If you don't feel that your whole family is excepted and welcome where you want them to go it may be time to change churches as hard as that seems. Good luck it will work out. Guest guest
THanks it helps to know I'm not alone - although I wish I were! We have the same problem the church we go to now is < 5 min and most other churches that would have est. programs are 15 to 20 min. And with 3 1/2 yr triplets it is hard to get anywhere on time!!! Guest guest
Yeah it is. Everyone loves the kids and thinks they are great anyway - that pretty much comes with the " OH WOW - they're triplets!? " But I would hope that they would at least listen when I ask them to do things that aren't too off the wall - like let her do it herself for once!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Hi Robyn!! No you shouldn't have left the church in tears. How about a different mass? Do they offer Saturday services? Or is it just one children's mass? I attend an old fashinoed church where you just go to mass quietly and leave. People do laugh, smile, smirk when yells "more" after the bell ringing which mind you is the most important and quiet part of the mass!! Of course I don't know what will happen when it comes time for CCD. Good luck. Sherrill mom to Jillian age 6 1/2 and and (D/s) age 2 1/2 P.S. I think you did the right thing by mentioning letting do it herself even if she doesn't finish.
Guest guest
Thanks for the thoughts. I guess I just expect everyone else to treat her the way that we do and I'm just now seeing that that isn't going to happen. I guess my thing is isn't that far behind - she just needs to be watched a little better than the others - I've seen kids far more behind in the regular classroom without a diagnosis in 's 1st grade - so that is what is most frustrating! I guess it is just preparing me for the " real world " - UGH!!! Robyn > Robyn & , > Isn't it a shame that even in church there are individuals who are clueless about children w/ DS.
