He used to be quite the wild boy, with absolutely no fear of danger. But now he is afraid of some of the same activities he used to do when he was much younger. He is even afraid of some steps!! It is extremely difficult to carry a 54lb boy up and down steps!! It seems to have started ever since he went on Risperdal. I plan on asking Dr. Capone about this at the next visit. Anyone else experience this? Traci and Gavin, age
Guest guest
Layne loves the riding mower and going for rides on the four wheeler. His pa-paw came down today and asked if 'Layne could come out to play' and took him for a ride. Layne loves toys that vibrate, and I am wondering if he gets the same from the mower and 4wheeler. His birthday is June 10. We just ordered his present. Got a jumpolene but we are going to put balls in it for him. He loves dumping the beanbags all over himself, and his speech therapist suggested a ball pit, and we decided that there isn't anything in the dining room, so why not a ball pit? Greg will help us bake and decorate his cake and we'll have a family party. The boys are out of school for the summer, and Greg is enjoying it immensely. and Amy moms to Layne 5, DS/ASD? and Greg, 10 ADHD Louise & Andy wrote: Yearly we take a trip to Iowa to visit my husband's side of the family. One doctor said it was a spatial thing. I've heard of some places around here where special kids go horseback riding. Our niece is great with and sat next to him as he drove the riding mower, loved that. Louise
Guest guest
Hi, We have done therapeutic riding since was almost 3 and he loves it. He did go through a stage, however, where he became very afraid of everything. I'm not sure if it was brought on by a medication, but it was GREATLY REDUCED when Pete went on Welbutrin. He was very afraid of going up stairs that had no risers (that he could see through). And I know what you mean about carrying him upstairs. And heights scared him at that point too. He has always been afraid of being upside down, but absolutely loves the stimulation of his vestibular system in every other way. (???) Go figure. Hope this helps a little, Bo

There was a young woman with DS who used to go to Maddie's private OT for help with this type of thing. Good luck, Donna

I never even put 2 and 2 together on this. Gavin does have many sensory issues and we were seeing a private OT to address these issues, however, because of his schedule, we had to stop. We stopped 1 month after he started taking Risperdal. Well I guess it's back to getting more therapy!! Traci
Guest guest
that remeinds me the vibration thing, remember those ball things cant remember the names tumblers maybe, well anyway they vibrated and moved all over the place and nathan use to stick one of the ends in his mouth constantly. weve thought on one of our next furniture purchases of buying him a bed with vibration, he is doing great in our old queen size bed, but is still often awake much of the nite watching his toons so want to take the next step in helping him relax in bed more. shawna

They were called *bumble balls*. Maddie loved them too. I remember taking the kids to Disneyworld when she was 7 months old and we used to put it in her stroller with her. Imagine the looks we got since people could only see the *shaking baby* as the ball was under her blanket...LOL Donna
