It has been brought to my attention a few times recently that getting

attachments from the yahoo group is difficult for some. Therefore, I have

" Nourishing Our Creative Identity "

Saturday April 9th, 2011

MISSION STATEMENT

The New York Coalition of Creative Arts Therapists (NYCCAT) is an association

made up of professionals from the field of Creative Arts Therapy including Art

Therapists, Dance/Movement Therapists, Drama Therapists, Music Therapists,

Poetry Therapists, and Psychodramatists. NYCCAT's mission is to promote and

follow the progress of Creative Arts Therapy Licensure (LCAT) in the State of

New York, to enhance the professional practice of Creative Arts Therapy by

promoting education, training, research, and professional opportunities, and to

increase public awareness of the Creative Arts Therapies. NYCCAT drives to

endorse and advance a core, professional identity and presence by unifying the

network of creative arts therapists.

The Rochester chapter of NYCCAT was formed in September 2009 by co-chairs

DeLucia and Konecny. It was the first satellite chapter to be

9:15-10:00am Keynote Presentation by

Dr. Demanchick, LMHC, RPT, NCC

P. Demanchick is an Assistant Professor for the Creative Arts Department

at Nazareth College and Director of the Nazareth College Play Therapy Center for

Children and Families. He earned his Ph.D. from University of Rochester in

October 2007. is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, a Registered Play

Therapist, Nationally Certified Counselor, and NIRE certified child-centered

play therapist. He has authored or coauthored chapters and articles about play

therapy with adults with developmental disabilities. He is a founding member of

the Rochester Area Person-Centered Association and an active member of the

Rochester Animal Assisted Therapy Initiative. Most recently, and his dog

Cotton have become Registered Pet Partners through the Delta Society and now

conduct animal-assisted play therapy sessions. During his keynote Presentation,

Dr. Demanchick will discuss his work with children in play therapy, the curative

power of play, as well as the potential of play to help us all be creative and

imaginative clinicians, helpers, and humans.

Workshop I

" Translating Movement Experiences and Observations into Reader-Friendly

Assessments "

Learn a model of movement assessment and treatment plan design translating

movement experiences and observations into a reader-friendly, easy to apply

format. Originally designed for emotionally disturbed children and adolescents

and developed further for adults with developmental disabilities, the model's

focus on movement and affective themes, reveals strengths and areas in need of

attention. Together, they provide clinical platforms for the development of both

individual treatment plans and goals for groups as a whole. The model, easily

applied to any population, can also be adapted to meet the assessment needs of

the other creative arts therapies.

Workshop II

" Yoga and Mandala-Making: Freedom and Fun in the Circle of Life "

Marget Braun, RYT

In this workshop, creative arts therapists will have the opportunity to try yoga

& mandala methods for themselves, experience what yoga and mandala-making may

feel like for clients, and gain exercises to use with clients. & #8232; & #8232;

Workshop I

" We're All in This Together:

Collaborative connections made through performance and technology "

Community connections have resulted in joint performances for our Center Based

Education Program in Rochester, NY. Funding and logistical issues may restrict

rehearsal; however, modern technology provides functional adaptations for

collaboration. Benefits and drawbacks will be explored through video, active

participation and an actual internet video chat with our students.

Workshop II

" Building Inclusive Artistic Communities: How It Happens "

Ware, Dance/Movement Specialist

In this workshop, we will explore artist development, when the artists are

people with special needs, using dance and theater, including script readings

from Over the Tavern, at Geva Theatre. We will move, and explore the stages of

development for artists with special needs, in dance, theater and the visual

arts.

Workshop I

" I am Thankful. I am Happy, I am Blessed "

This presentation will take you on a journey through 's experience with

various life challenges she has faced, as well as her process in music therapy

and art therapy. has written and recorded several original songs, some of

which have carried over into her art therapy experience. This session will

consist of a live performance of 's original music, discussion of her

songwriting process, a brief overview of recording techniques, a display of her

paintings, as well as a discussion about her process in music therapy and art

therapy.

Workshop II

" Towards A Contemplative Psychology "

Craig Bullock, MA, MA, LMHC

At the very core of every person is a point of pure wholeness, which is

untouched by life's traumas. True mental health is less about fixing what is

broken and more about accessing one's inner potential for intelligent, creative,

and expansive living. Craig's presentation will highlight the key stepping

stones of the interior journey to enlightened living. It promises to be both

thought provoking and practical.

4:30 Closing Workshop

" Freeing the Natural Voice Through The Therapeutic Drone "

Down, MM, MMT, MTBC, LCAT

This workshop will examine different interventions applicable in clinical work

using drone instruments to elicit emotions, create a containing element for free

expression, and provide a solid ground for group improvisation. During our

experiential, some of the instruments we will explore include: Indian sruti box,

harmonium, crystal bowls, tuning forks, percussive and vocal ostinati. Many

other instruments will be available for use, and the conference will close with

this experiential.

All attendees will receive 6 CECs for attending this all day conference
