During this highly experiential workshop, participants will learn and practice the psychodramatic method, its structure, skills and techniques such as doubling, role reversal, concretization and warm ups, through structured exercises, vignettes and full psychodramas. Group members will have the opportunity to learn the 'nuts and bolts' of directing psychodrama as they work on issues from their own lives in a safe and supportive environment. They will have the opportunity to try on the roles of:

protagonist

auxiliary

group member

directorGroup sociometry will be explored in action and sociometric interventions explained. Advanced students may have the opportunity to direct. Didactic sessions and thorough processing of the psychodramas will be included. Students at levels of experience are welcomed.Affordable overnight accommodations are available.CEUs: This training offers 34 Continuing Education Credits towards national credentialing by National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC), NYS OASAS, and towards re-certification requirements for the National Registry of Group Psychotherapists. This training offers hours towards certification by the American Board of Examiners in Psychodrama, Sociometry and Group Psychotherapy (ASGPP) and is accepted toward credentialing by the National Drama Therapy Association and the American Society for Experiential Therapists. Many of our students who are social workers have had these hours accepted towards their social work CEU requirements, but that is on a state by state basis.ACCOMMODATIONS: Affordable overnight accommodations are available.

Highland, NYEarly Registration Discount Available Through October 1, 2010!Trainers: Walters, MS, LMHC, LCAT, TEPPsychodrama is a natural and powerful method for helping troubled, abused and traumatized children tell their stories, safely express strong feelings and try out new behaviors and roles. This professional training will offer participants the opportunity to learn adaptations of the psychodramatic method that work especially well with groups of children ages seven though twelve. Many of these structures can be adapted to work with individuals and families.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:Participants will explore and experience structures that allow for the safe acting out of children's hopes, fears and difficulties through the use of:

Fairytales

Storytelling

Sociodrama

Personal life stories

Group-created storiesParticipants will practice variations of therapeutic action techniques that work with children, such as:

Doubling

Multiple doubling

Role playing

Playback theater

Inner and outer circle

Family sculpting

Role training for new behaviorThe use of group ritual and structures for safety and containment will be demonstrated. Ways to address the difficulties inherent in using psychodrama with children will be discussed.Students at levels of experience are welcomed. NOTE: SPACE IS EXTREMELY LIMITED FOR THIS GROUP. PLEASE REGISTER EARLY.Core training in Psychodrama, Sociometry and Group Psychotherapy is a year-long intensive training format that creates a community of learners committed to personal and professional growth. It provides a safe place in which to develop spontaneity as a director, auxiliary, protagonist and group member.

Each year special topics such as the use of psychodrama in individual therapy, action methods with children and adolescents, spontaneity training, working with resistance, sociodrama, the use of the body and working with trauma may be offered. There will be many opportunities for student directing.

PRE-REQUISITE:

70 hours of previous psychodrama training, including at least one HVPI intensive and/or permission of faculty.
