Guest guest
Kay, Great to hear that is walking. Tyler has started to potty train on his own. I think he sees his sister using the potty so he tries. Sometimes he goes on the potty and other times he gets my attention to late. Right now he is only showing significate delay in his speech. But like my other two he has shown that if he really wants to say a word or two he can, he just does not like me to force him to speak. I just got a letter from our school district telling me what school Tyler is going to this fall. I actually got the school I wanted him. He will be with about 3 or 4 other children with DS. His teachers have been teaching together for 12 years and have a great track record with DS children. Guest guest
Katy, Lucky you and Tyler, I " visited " our preschool disabled program/class, 4 times before Tara's IEP last February........she is in the class, but I have taught " them " far more about Tara and Ds, they have had children with Ds, but to me, it's more of " a one size fits all " approach, although they'll never admit it. I am on them, and visible to the school. Tara is still in ESY as they messed things up at the begining of the summer and now owe Tara/me, 2 more weeks.......I can go on and on about this topic, but I'll stop............. Good Luck! Guest guest
Kay, I am new to the site and was wondering a couple of things... Where does your family live in Iowa? We live 1/2 hour south of Iowa City. Also, I see that your triplets are 3 1/2 years old. My twins are the same age (one has DS) and were born on March 12th. How 'bout yours? Guest guest
Deanna, Congratulation on the home coming of your son. Finally a night home in mom's arms are wonderful. As for a DS chart there is one at www.ds-health.com Lots of information there. My son is now 10months old with DS and a premmie too. He was born at 27 weeks. He is weighing 11lbs and 5ozs and @24 inches now. He is small and still has a lot of growing to do. He has had open heart surgery and a reflux surgery also a g-tube placed with in the first 4 months of his life. Along with my 9yr old()4yr old(Dayton) both also have DS. They all aspirates on liquids. and Dayton both can tolrate thick liquids although Dayton was a g-tube baby from birth to 3yrs of age. As for the hearing test, failed his ABR test too at birth 3 times. Recently shows a minor loss.. not enough to worry. We think at birth he had ear infections causing the failed ABR's. Post again soon on the progress of . , mom to 9yr(DS)Dayton4yr(DS) and 10months(DS)
Guest guest
Hi Deanna! It so nice to hear from you and get an update on what's going on in your life. How exciting to have home finally! I can remember what that was like, so exciting to finally have them home, yet still a little " scary " . I know I got too dependant on them being hooked up to monitors while in the hospital. My boys were preemies also, 26 weekers. I don't know of any growth charts other than the " typical " growth chart and the DS growth chart. I know for the longest time Sam and weren't even on the typical chart, and barely on the DS chart. If you had a choice between the two, I'd go with the DS chart. Just as a site note, don't be surprised if you find that you have short periods of growth spurts followed by long " plateau " periods. This is pretty common in not only preemies, but kids w/DS. Sam and are now 6 and are 43 inches tall and are each just about 40lbs (depending on who weighs them). I get a lot of " strange " looks when people ask how old they are and I tell them. I usually just say " oh, they wre preemies " and leave it at that. I'm glad you shared this update with us. Please know we will always be here for you and I hope you check in again soon. Guest guest
Last weekend we took and flew to Raleigh, NC to visit another son and his wife. had a good time, likes to fly. Mon. we had his annual physical, rec'd the report of the labs done the week before, has Iron Deficiency Anemia again. He had it in 2002, endoscopy/colonoscopy, biopsy for celiac neg, on iron 7 months. Now back to the gastroenterolotgist on the 30th. Next Tues. we see the psychiatrist to see what he says about the psychological and recent report from the independent consultant re the autism. Last appt. we had the psychological and he didn't think he had autism. I am to meet in a couple weeks with the behavior analyst about his behavior plan to incorporate what the psychologist and consultant recommended. Then the team is to meet mid May. Seems to take so long to get things going and now we have the anemia to follow-up. Louise, Mom to 41 DS/HI/ASD
