Hi Laurie, Speaking as an old Mom and Grandma I wouldn't send Mic to any school never mind an hour away for a therapy so intense that a well child may find difficult. Mic is too medically fragile to send any place. I think having related services come to you may even be too much at times. I would concentrate on getting through all the surgeries and take it slow. I would think exposing him to many children in a school enviroment would increase his susceptibility to viruses. You have a good sense of what works with Mic and what doesn't. I would suggest you work with Mic on his good days and leave the school issues for now. When I am not well I do not feel like working. I would think Mic feels the same. Give him the time he needs to get well first. He will learn to dislike school if you push him before he is physically ready and able to handle it. Mic will be able to learn when he is well. Hi Laurie, I would definately ask him what he thinks. Isn't the hip surgery a long recovery period? When is that scheduled? I can only imagine how difficult it is to have Mic at you pulling your hair. I would talk to the dev ped about this too. I knew Maddie would not be able to handle ANYTHING intensely; it's her nature. They do use ABA at her school, but not *in your face* type program. I am still a huge believer in Floortime because I think that teaching with affect, which is the basis of FT, develops empathy and interaction instigated by the child. That being said, ABA has definitely worked with Maddie. And yes, it was most definitely quick. It was through ABA that Maddie was finally able to respond to her name and participate in circle time.
