Guest guest
Ditto Pam, We have the same Maclaren chair and bought it from the same company and love it. I forget what the weight limit is on it but I think it's somewhere around 110-120 lbs. If your daughter is already 95 lbs., depending on what her rate of growth is, you may need to find something bigger. But by then you might be getting into the big bucks. Love our chair though for what it's worth. a (Hannah 7 DS/Aut)
Guest guest
Wow!!!! That's impressive!! You must have a great doctor. > Also he is interested in joining this group to learn more about the dual diagnosis. He has another patient who he thinks might have Autism. It is a little one year old boy with Down's.
Guest guest
Hi DeDee, Did you not appeal it with your insurance? With a supportive Dr.'s note stating reason behind like low muscle tones or lower trunk anyways similar to these words to describe it as a medical necessity and if you have an OT to support this by writing a letter it would help too. Most of the time the insurance would reconsider it, if not than appeal again with the doc back in the picture writing up a " medical reconsideration " letter and normally the insurance will than pay. I've learned that the more you appeal the more you're about to get something going. Yes, its work but at the end most of the time it pays off. If you have a medical note to back you up on the purchase of the wheelchair its tax deductible. I'm kinda of out dated right now with this on the actual time phrase that you could still try to submit it to the insurance. Anything is a worth a try. Plus do not forget to get a Handicap placecard, this also helps out tremendously. I never wanted to when I was told, when my son was younger as he is not physically handicap but throughout the years than I went for it and what a Blessing. Enjoy your trip and have lots of fun. Have a safe trip. Irma,15,Ds/ASD Re: Stroller/Wheelchairs Again. LOL HI Pam, I got 's wheelchair at a wheelchair company, don't even remember the name of it now. But I am not always too good at chasing down resources for stuff like this. I had looked at alot of web sites & stroller companies for one strong enough for his weight but couldn't find one, so I finaly went to the wheelchair store acros from the hospital. our insurance wouldn't cover it tho & we don't have any other resource that would help out either, so it was VERY expensive for us! ( almost $2000!!!) well , I say we didn't have resources - but my parents helped! otherwise we could not have gotten it! they will certainly be appreciating it too when we go to Disney World next week! So even tho it is a very good chair & will last him for years, I wouldn't recommend going that way because of the expense. DeDee
Guest guest
Hi Pam: Our son uses a convaid stroller. (http://www.convaid.com/docs/index.html). It is like an umbrella stroller, fold up like one which is great, but is much sturdier. At this point we could not live without it, our son is about 105 pounds and we can no longer carry him if he refused to walk. Hope this helps.
