Guest guest
This coming Sunday our pastor said to meet him after mass to pick up some host to practice with to see how he will react to it. Father O'Gorman said " yes sweetie I'll be glad to perform the ceremony. " " I'm dancing in the rain. " : ) Father said he notices when its time to say the " Our Father " that he will get up and hold hands and just participate in such a beautiful way. He also had noticed how tries to do the sign of the cross and kneels before entering the pew. How he stays in line when going up to the alter with his hands together for the communion, of course he does not receive it yet but does the routine well. I remembered when I had joined the list, all this was a different story. Y'all deserve great big hugs as credit is due to all of you who had shared your experiences with the Sensory issues. ASD became a new word than the rest had followed. Another mission about to be accomplished. Thanks! Irma,15,DS/ASD

Guest guest
Hi Charlyne, I guess in a way what kept me going to church and dealing with the stressful or embarrassing moments of 's issues on persuing this was the issue of my nephews death and this was one of my ways of coping with it. In the past every little thing when would react to, we would just pick him up and go. I finally had to put my foot down and learn to work around it. The other was making sure that my other son Rick did not fall behind by being a role model and I know many times it was not fair for him when he could not participate becoming active with church activities because of 's behavior. Rick will be making his Confirmation this coming month of April and his Uncle who is also his Godfather and who happens to be my late nephew's dad will be sponsoring him on this special occassion and he has not step foot at this church in 9 yrs. so I already know I better try to be strong for this. We wanted to change church but Rick was the one who said no. You could say if it had not been for the reasons behind I never would of continue this far. Plus I had to pray for tons of patience and build my strength to confront the challenges. Losing my nephew motivated me to accept the challenges with more than ever as when we visit my brother-in-law & his wife and them missing their son I know they rather be in my shoes with the issues I have to deal with than not having a son at all. The other weak moments that have given me strength are when I see parents having to deal with their child with special needs in a wheelchair, feeding issues, ongoing medical issues their child never being able to do anything physically or mentally? I just pray for the parents and the child and then appreciate 's daily challenges and its nothing compared to theirs, they do have it harder than I. I do know my life would of been boring without my . Well, Charlyne I'm glad you concentrated on the educational areas needed because I have to admit if people like you did not exist many of our kids would still be segregated from the community or school. Some parents like myself would walk in blindly not knowing the hidden educational issues. I've trusted them. They're the professionals. Of course now I have a different view of it so thanks for always sharing your wealth of info. I know its on-going battle or pick and choose your battle, as its a link to link chain of challenges to move on to become educated and educate others this together. Hugs! Irma,15,DS/ASD Hi Irma, What great news. I have let this area slide with Zeb. I suppose I should pursue this too but too busy in the educational arena at this time. Guest guest
Hi Irma, I made excuses for not continuing with church as I should have. We have a new wonderful priest now so I have no reason other than being so tired and having another issue to deal with. I need to adopt your attitude. Guest guest
Oh Donna, Thanks, as Father had contacted me I went to one of those flashback memories, you happen to be in my thoughts of some of the church stories we had shared " Remember when " like running after our kids and having to remove my shoes off to chase and I remember you had a similar story. I believe I had joined this list around 2001, but was just a lurker until I finally started writing how y'all kept talking about my child only different cities and names have been changed. How I could so relate. I still can't believe how much has been accomplished but never would of done this alone without y'all's support. Thanks everyone!! Hugs!
