My Great-grandmother had Alzeimer's, my Grandmother had Alzheimer's, and my mother has Alzheimer's!! My sisters and I are going to see if we can get a group rate on Aricept! LOL Seriously, I have been taking extra Vitamin E and C for years because " they " have touted the benefits to the circulatory system. If they are effective against Alzheimer's, that's a definite plus!! LOL Somwhere along the way, I read that Estrogen helps to avoid Alzheimer's....I use the Climara patch!! LOL Just covering all my bases!! Oh my goodness Terry!!!!! At what age was your mom dx'd?? And at what age did your g-moms die? Guest guest
Hi Donna, My mom was actually diagnosed when she was 80 yrs. old but she was having fairly obvious symptoms when she was in her 70's. My grandmother was dx'd when she was in her early 70's, I think, and she died in her 80's. I don't know that my great-grandmother was actually ever diagnosed but she had all the same symptoms and died in her 90's. Both my great-grandmother and my grandmother ended up in nursing homes. ;-( My dad is taking care of my mom now and it is really heartbreaking. If I was (dh), I would be scared! My aunt also died in a nursing home (though she was what I consider young....72) My cousins said that they would only do that when they HAD to and when they were sure Mom wouldn't really know what was happening. She didn't. And they actually said they felt blessed because she never really reached that end phase...she was still childlike, somewhat interactive and happy when she died.
