Guest guest
Hi! Oh, Laurie, I'm so sorry to hear of all Mic's troubles. I'm glad that you kept pushing the doctors for answers. You and Mic are in our family's prayers. 's potty training. For the longest time, the moment we tried to put him on the potty, he'd start screaming. In the beginning, we'd try every few months, not wanting to traumatize him. We tried everything - getting him a Sesame street potty chair, Blue's clues potty insert. Once he went to kindergarten, it was in his IEP to potty with him - they got him to sit first, and I'm loathe to admit it, they would " buckle " him into the potty chair. After a while, he got into the habit at school of sitting (but nothing else) on the potty, but it was still difficult to get him to sit (even clothed on a closed seat) at home. One day he showed an interest in sitting on the potty - not in the two bathrooms that we set up for potty training, but in the Master bathroom that my husband and I share! I guess that is where he most often saw Mommy and Daddy using the potty in the morning and at night, and that's where he wanted to sit, too! Yes, Donna, we have tried many times to pour water over his privates to start the flow, but nothing. It is funny how you can talk him through the entire routine - pull down pants, sit on potty (still not always cooperative there), pull up pants, put down lid, flush potty (a favorite), wash hands (even more of a favorite) with soap, shut off water and dry hands on the towel. He's got the routine except for the pee part. I've looked at alot of information that this group posted, and I think we will try the same time of the day - we know that he usually has a BM about 6:30 every evening. Well, the first day, I sat with him on the potty, sang a few songs, and when he started to get flustered, we left the bathroom, but I tried to monitor him to see when he would have his next BM. He didn't until the next day, which is unusual, since he often has 1-2 BM's at night between dinner and bedtime at 9. This weekend is kind of screwy, so we are going to start Monday again trying to catch him at 6:30 - I'll let you know if our bathrooming changes his patterns. He also doesn't like us to show him dropping his diaper poop in the potty. Any more suggestions? Best wishes, Ginny Mom to (6yo/DS/PDD/AML in remission/100% boy)
