So, we were impressed when we ran across this blog on sound archetypes from Suresh Emre in New York. While Emre identifies sound archetypes as sacred symbols that have been " imprinted in our genes and in our collective mind, " he does a very interesting job of connecting the divine word to the sounds 'hu' in many languages and through many different sacred texts.Werner Herzog's " Art Film " From the very new to the very old... At the gathering with the US General Council at the House of Peace last week, a local friend gave a strong recommendation to the new film by Werner Herzog: " Cave of Forgotten Dreams. " More than fifty films have come from this Munich-born director, winning prizes as far back as a special grand jury prize at Cannes for " The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser " in 1974. The new film takes us to the Chauvet caves of southern France, whose works of art are dated back over 30,000 years. More on Herzog's official site (note: scroll down for the trailer which begins automatically and with loud noises). Two Exhibits in New YorkOne goes often for visual art to big cities, and New York City is a great place for that. Through July 11th the Museum of Modern Art " MoMA " is serving up " German Expressionism: The Graphic Impulse. " As painter and graphic artist, Rudolf Steiner would be considered among the expressionists. Of their shared concerns MoMA's site says that the expressionists' works " reflect a period of intense social and aesthetic transformation, and several themes of continuing resonance emerge. These include a focus on urban experience, an uncompromising approach to the body and sexuality, and an abiding preoccupation with nature, religion, and spirituality. " While impressionist art seems to play most often delightedly with the perceptual field, expressionism took on the newly seen eruptions from the unconscious: and then the civilizational disaster of " The Great War. " If not afraid of the ugly side, it renders insight and great beauties. (Pictured is Oskar Kokoschka's " Hans Tietze and a Tietze-Conrat, 1909. " )Visual art is a longtime and lively concern also at Anthroposophy NYC, the New York branch of the Anthroposophical Society, whose " Centerpoint Gallery " shows a diversity of art impulses. The current wall-filling exhibit is by long-time member of the NY branch and noted painter Dan Marshall. Alongside huge paintings are a wonderful array of new works, including drawings of statues at Chartres cathedral (seen earlier this year at the SteinerBooks Spiritual Research Seminar at NYU) and meditation triptychs. The exhibit will be up through June, so you could visit MoMA during the day and view Dan's work while taking in one of the branch's June events, which include two visual arts workshops and visits by Ulrich Roesch from the Goetheanum and Dr. Selg of the Ita Wegman Institute.Light Notes: Seattle band, The Head and the Heart, have been making waves with their music, catchy tunes, simple and accessible lyrics and beautiful music videos: " Lost in My Mind.
