Guest guest
Truths and half-truths need to be handled with care. I am too much of a coward to be told the full facts and I know that my son has seen many patients fade away rapidly when they are given the full truth. He always follows the advice given by a more senior doctor when he was a student "never take away hope". When my sister was dying she asked for the full unvarnished truth but as she said to me afterwards, "I didn't expect it right between the eyes!". However facts which may help a patient directly should not be witheld. Tony
